Nice Hotel- Awful Location

Face it- the reviewers gave this hotel more credit than what it is worth. Even the map made it look closer to the action that what it really is. CON: No spa, pool or even attractive scenary. My bedroom window looked out into an abandon building. The neighborhood that surronds this hotel is run down. Nothing to do- not even a movie theater. Most people take a cab- about 30 minutes to the malls, shopping alleys and basically any life outside of the neighborhood that you don’t want to vacation in. The money saved on a room is money spent in a cab going to/from this hotel. Most taxi cabs don’t know about this hotel (or straight-up lie to you) and will take you to the Regal Hotel (not Regal Oriental Hotel) in Kowloon. I was lucky and got one of the reception personnel to write down this hotel in Chinese characters. PRO: Despite the run down buildings and awful location, the neighborhood has some pretty cheap prices on the same goods you would pay more for in the shopping alleys/malls. The bar is good (nothing great). Attractive night-time scenary at the top of this hotel. The rooms are quite nice actually. Wi-Fi is great. A/C is good. Beds are somewhat hard, but I’ve slept on worse in other hotels. Two shower heads in the room I was in. CONCLUSION: This is a good 3 to 4 star hotel- but the location makes me never to want to go back there again unless they had more (standard) stuff to offer (I.e. a pool, spa, jacuzzi). You get what you pay for...

Hong Kong is ideal weather-wise October and November- perfect for outdoor market shopping.

worth its reasonable price

Great hotel for its reasonable price. Excellent service: gave us baby crib and extra blankets right away upon request. Decent size room for Hong Kong.

Traveler's tip on dining

Near Thai town. A lot of good Thai restaurants near by.

This is a must stay!!!!

This Hotel is fabulous. The views from the rooms are great. It’s central location to so many of the wonderful things to do in Hong Kong is key to the excellent trip I had with my family. Please give the Regal Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong a look.

Just right

Although the hotel was away from all the hot spots, it was just right. Of course, all the attractions were a taxi or ferry ride away, so this made perfect sense for us on this trip. The concierge assisted with all our trip desires and proved to be very effective. We were very happy with this hotel -- perfect for such a reasonable price.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

To get to the hotel, just take the airport express train to the Kowloon Station (1st stop) and take a taxi. Don’t miss Lantau Island and the Po Lin Monastery as well as the tram up to the Peak. For a diversion, take the Star Ferry (cheap) to HK Island and walk to the Bus Depot (5 min.) and take the 6A bus out to Stanley Market. It’s a 30 minute ride, but great views abound, especially dropping into Repulse Bay.

INTERNET SERVICE

currently, most of the hotel provide free internet. however this hotel internet is very expensive $700 for 7 days or $25 per mins max $185 per day. although room rate is a little cheaper than other, but if you add up $100 internet per day. you will find out actually is expensive than the other

Traveler's tip

close to my parents home

Reasonable rates

Hotel is not convenient to the train stations, but is adequately convenient for travel by bus; to and from the airport as well at to and from the Kowloon Star Ferry pier.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Good for a comfortable stay that’s not too close to downtown Kowloon. It can be easily reached by bus lines, but is inconvenient if you want to use the trains. The bus system is easy enough to understand, for getting to the airport as well as to the Star Ferry terminal - and is cheaper than the price of train fares anyways. The buses also use the octopus card.

Regal Oriental Hotel at Christmas

I tried another hotel in Hong Kong on my last trip, but shouldn’t have--that is why I cancelled that reservation, and booked into the Regal Oriental again. The cleanliness, quiet, and charm of this place is unsurpassed. Also, I always get a good rate. There is a bar at the top of this hotel that is the most comfortable I have ever been in. I dream of going back, and will go back as soon as possible.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Walk around the surrounding neighborhoods and shops. The people are very friendly in Kowloon city.

Clean and Cosy otel

The room is very nice. I think it was just renovated. As always, room are very small and this hotel room is especially small. Do not have any underground train nearby so taxi and bus is needed to go anywhere. Overall, I am quite happy with the room rate offered.

A Little Gem

Stayed at the Regal Oriental for 12 days July 2008. I would go back anytime! The service was excellent, staff very helpful, the room was well very clean and comfortable.(Rooms are on the small side, but this is HK and space comes at a premium.) Restaurants in the hotel - very good. Hotel is situated very close to the Kowloon Walled City Park, and away from the typical tourist areas. Hong Kong transportation is easy and varied and cheap - taxi and mini busses available right outside the hotel, major bus lines available a short walk away.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Nan Lian Garden - short taxi ride from the hotel. These beautifully designed gardens, newly opened (2006) should be on everybodies list of places to visit. The gardens are adjacent to the Chi Lin Nunnery.

good value for single traveller

The room has just been renovated. It’s clean and modern. However the size of the room is half of normal standard room.

1st time in Hong Kong

This hotel is very nice on the inside and the service was very good. It is a little narrow the way the room is shaped, but it’s ok. The price is very reasonable and I think you will be pleased with the hotel overall. I read some people’s reviews and to be quite honest, they aren’t flattering to the hotel. I usually come to my own conclusions, like when you are choosing a movie to go to,etc... I liked it, but then again I am not whiny, nor high maintenance, unlike other travelers... hehehe.. Have fun and check out Hong Kong Harbour at night and Disneyland.

Best Top Floor Bar in all of Hong Kong

This hotel has the greatest top-floor bar in all of Hong Kong. It has comfortble couch seating with pillows, a great view, and karaoke. And it’s never crowded. I wish I could go back right now.
