Out of the way in San Jose

Average hotel, average location. Would find better if I had stayed longer, but was only there for a one day business trip.

there is a large park in walking, several restaurants, (the Brazilian restaurant, don’t waste your time). has wireless, hotel computer and prints.

Clean, centrally located hotel in San Jose

My husband and I stayed at the Parque del Lago from Feb. 20-27. We opted to stay in San Jose in order to be close to family we were visiting. For a hotel that is close to the city it was mostly quiet, very clean, and offered good service. All of the front desk associates spoke good English. The breakfast that was included in our room stay had lots of options from typical pico de gallo to Raisin Bran. A little somehthing for everyone. I was disappointed that there was not a coffee maker in our room, but the coffee in the restaurant was superb and they will give you a cup to go back to your room if you ask. The service in the restaurant was slow but friendly and accurate. For a business traveler this would be an ideal place to stay. The hotel was very secure and although there was a safe in our room we left on an overnight trip to the beach and left our laptop in the room with no issues. We felt very safe there. All in all it was a good hotel and appeared above average for the area. It is located by a nearby park that is very nice for a morning walk. We ate at the Brazillian steakhouse that was just down the road and it was also very good. Skip lunch if you decide to go because it is all you can eat and they keep the meat coming. Service at the restaurant was also good. We did not realize but most restaurants include a manndatory 10% gratuity in the check, so make sure to review your bill before tipping 20%.

Hidden Treasure

Nearly impossible to find at night but lovely once you do. All was picture perfect, with the exception of my needing more towels & the night auditor was unable to bring them stating that he was the only person there. Also, in a very congested city, the free parking was a welcome sight.

Either speak fluent Spanish or know San Jose, CR very well because this place is hard to find.

great in-town location

This small hotel is right off the road to the airport and one block from the large city park. It is very secure with parking access gated and with an attendant. The bar/restauraunt had friendly staff and reasonable menu. The room was simply decorated but very clean. It caters to the business community but also welcomes other travelers like us.

Driving in San Jose is an experience; It took us two hours to finally find our way out to the west. Not many street signs until you hit a main highway.

peaceful oaisis in big city...

i found the parque del lago hotel to be a friendly, quiet place in an otherwise bustling, busy, city...we explored the area around sabana park and the immediate neighborhood as well...our stay was comfortable and safe--and we found the hotel staff (particularly angeles:) to be very friendly and extremely helpful.

Very helpful staff

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Very nice breakfast bar. Staff helped arrange a tour, and when I left an article on the tour bus, they were very helpful in getting it returned quickly (I was leaving the next day).

Excellent three-star hotel

We chose this hotel because we’d heard that the staff was really friendly and it had a great breakfast buffet and we were not disappointed. The staff is exceptional, which is important, as San Jose isn’t the safest of cities, and we needed a lot of help negotiating the city and the language. And breakfast was terrific--they even put out pastries and coffee at 5:30 am when we needed to leave on an early tour. The room was great (though the bathroom was a tad on the old side), with a fabulous view of the mountains. The hotel is not in the center of San Jose, but that’s not really a problem as it’s not really safe to walk anywhere in the city at night, but taxis are really easy to use to come and go anywhere.

We had a fine casual dinner at the Machu Pichu restaurant (with an amazing dessert, which was the house speciality)and a totally spectacular dinner at the Grano de Oro hotel, just a short cab-ride away.

Awfull experience

Arriving after 22 hours of travel with a very tired five years old boy, we entered into a little nightmare. When we arrived at the hotel at nine p.m. local time, We were told that even though we had made our reservations, and that the total amount allready had been drawn on my credit card, the two rooms we had booked (and paid for) were not available to us! Very disappointing, and certainly not the welcome we had hoped for.

Not great but very acceptable

Good hotel for business traveler. Security was good. Breakfast buffet was included and good. Dinner was acceptable. WiFi was included and worked fine. Transfer to airport was included. Airport was about 15 min ride. Not too much in the surrounding area although there was an Italian Restaurant next door. Service was friendly. I would go back.

Great Value !

This is a terrific value for an overnight stay in San Jose. Included in the rate is an excellent buffet breakfast, free wireless, free airport transfers and internet computer stations on floors 2 & 4. We were also given free drink vouchers for the bar. Security at the hotel is very good. English speaking staff. The hotel does not have its own airport shuttle, When arriving at the airport, make sure and take an orange/red taxi to the hotel. The hotel will then pay the cabdriver. The hotel will schedule/pay for your transportation back to the airport - a 15-20 minute drive.

Good for the price

The rooms were nice. The hotel staff was also very helpful. The resteraunt was just okay. This was a good hotel for the price and it was close to the airport with free transfers.

Exceptional service

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the airport and its very reasonable price, but were pleasantly surprised to find exceptional service and wonderfully clean rooms. Hotels in Costa Rica are difficult to compare to the U.S., because the humidity causes of all the enclosed spaces in Costa Rica to smell musty, but the air-conditioning worked wonderfully, the beds were neat and firm, and the breakfast buffet was delightful. The concierge and maid service in Costa Rica definitely surpass those in the best hotels in the U.S.

Clean, pretty roomy, English-speaking employees

I would stay there again - everything went well, and the hotel restaurant was even cheap & tasty. That continental breakfast kept me going!

Only complaint is the size of the bathroom

Other than that the hotel was perfect. Free breakfast was very good with a lot of hot and cold choices. The free transportation to and from airport is an added benefit. The staff always had a smile on their face and are ready to do anything to keep the guests happy. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I did not find any good restaurants close to the hotel. The hotel cafe was not bad but a little expensive.

Clean Modern Hotel

Modern hotel that was very clean. Food was great and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a hotel. Has a drab atmosphere that didn’t make the hotel unique.

A deal!

Small but decent, newly renovated room per US standard. The hotel and parking yard was enclosed by high wall, steel gate and armored guards. Free continental breakfast is the best I ever had. People are nice too. Free computer/internet connection from a private cozy den is cool too. Very close to CR-1. To be improved: I am not sure the sheet has been changed.

Nice place!

Extremely clean and comfortable, very pleasant and helpful staff, good location in terms of safety and accessibility to central San José. The only problem I had was that there was a lot of noise from the street. I would stay there again but I’d ask for a different room.
