unexpected charge
only thing that we did not like was the unexpected additional charge to park in the garage , $15/day and you had to do it
need to add the luggage charge to the price of your tickets

nice hotel, strange parking
The Hampton Alexandria is in a good location, at the end of the city business area; there are places to shop and eat within an easy walking distance. However, their parking leaves a lot to be desired, you have to drive around the hotel to a small lane in the back (took us two times to find it) and then go down the lane to the garage for the Hampton Inn(small sign at the end). When we got to the garage the metal door was down so we went back to the hotel and were told we had to drive up to a speaker and let them know we needed to have the door opened up (not told this the first time we asked where to park). Went back again and proceeded down a ramp to underground parking, metal door shut behind us. Other than that, the hotel itself is nice, typical Hampton Inn, small rooms and free breakfast but everything clean and neat, staff friendly. The next time I would like to try the other side of the historic part of town, by the Potomac River, we did not get to see that side so I dont know what is there.
Traveler's tip on dining
we ate at a tapas bar which was maybe four short walking blocks to the east on the other side of the street, it was excellent and we would recommend it.

Smoky Room
Was put into a smoking room when non-smoking was requested. Apparently they were out of non-smoking rooms so there were no other options.
