Great hotel
This was a great hotel. The room was spacious and nice. I asked for a quiet room and my request was accommodated on check in. The room included a mini fridge with extra space to put in my own water, etc. Bathroom included a tub, which was a nice surprise. The free Internet use was wonderful. I finally figured out that mid-day was the best time to slip onto the Internet without issue. Location was perfect. 2 blocks away was the Zoological station which had buses and trains to everywhere. The negatives are: the bed was very hard. My back was in terrible shape at the end of the week-long stay. But, I find that nearly all European beds are not as comfortable as in the US (except for Renaissance - which is fantastic everywhere, but does not have a location in Berlin). There was no additional lock on the door. I am used to a deadbolt or chain or somthing extra. The spa was co-ed and was packed with people, which was a huge disappointment. There was literature in the room about how the Swedes frown on using a bathing suit in a spa. This literature from the hotel made what was an awkward co-ed spa extremely uncomfortable and unusable by me. The gym had 1 of each - treadmill, bike, eliptical machine. It was absolutely pitiful for a 5 star hotel.
My trip was in early October. Due to work contraints and obligations I could not go in September, as I would have preferred. I checked the weather before I went. While the weather can change from a 10 day forecast, this weather wound up being consistently cool, sprinkling rain nearly every day, and windy. There was only 1 very nice day, out of 7, with few clouds in the sky. Even that day was terribly cold and windy. While the rates were good (thanks to a package), shoulder season in Northern Germany is a bit harsh.
