Cant wait to go back
I spent one week at the Excelsior and had a delightful time. The approach to the hotel via the hotels private dock is picturesque. Having complementary boat service to San Marco, almost every hour, every day makes a stay on Lido a good choice. The breakfast buffet located on the beach behind the cabanas is very good and includes a wide choice of fresh fruits, eggs, pancakes, baked goods and esspresso or whatever you choose to drink, including Pressco. The hotel staff is very helpful and responsive. The staff changes towels twice a day and cleans up the room. Many rooms have fabric covered walls with a Moorish theme. 1/4 of the hotel borders a street, which I would not recommend as there are noisy motor bikes well into the night. The other 3 sides are very nice with either views of a garden or the beach. There is also a bar with a beautiful terrace that looks out over the Adriatic Sea. We had supper at the restaurant one evening, it was good but not great. For instance we ordered sword fish and were served something else. In summary it is an exceptional 100 year old hotel that has been well cared for and is an easy boat ride from the crowds in Venice.
There were many families with children staying in the hotel. They seemed to enjoy being there. I would encourage families to stay at the hotel.

Once you are there you dont want to leave
This was the best 5 star hotel for the money you pay. Room was decorated like a palace room, surroundings were beautiful. Access to beach as well as water taxi was at our finger tips. Hotel offers free shuttle service to Marks Square (main attraction) in Vanice and to Murano Island. Considering costs for water taxi for few days, you are staying for free in this hotel. We would recomment any one who is visiting Venice to consider this Hotel. Very friendly hotel staff and outstanding decor.

This place has gotten mixed reviews and I cant understand why. The hotel is beautiful - the rooms are bigger than anything you will get in the main island. Its priced better and the staff is very helpful. We were there during the beinnale and got a huge room at a price half of what was being offered by other "5" stars. As long as you dont mind the inconvenience of a water taxi in and out of Venice, this place is a great hotel.
