Fine for what I needed.
Enjoyed the historic character of the hotel. Meals were good and location was fine. Accessibility to room was a bit difficult.

Convenient
Hotel is a short walk from Canterbury West train station so was convenient using Canterbury for our base taking a day trip to Battle and Hastings. Had to go to East station for day trip to Dover and Calais. Hotel was comfortable but didnt use the hotel restaurant for breakfast or dinner. It was more expensive than the many choices available only a block or two down the road. Our room was at the front of the hotel and very noisy at night. City buses stop right in front of hotel, travelers returning from nearby train station, and just people walking and talking in streets made it difficult to keep the window open for fresh air. Wasnt worth changing our room for the 3 nights we were there but would request a room in the back next time. Over all, it was a nice room for the money and location.

Disappointing, but great location
This hotel is in definite need of updating. Cleanliness of the bathrooms leaves a lot to be desired. We were staying for a week and were given a tiny room in the main building. We asked to be moved and were given, or so we were told, the largest room, also in the main building. It was a big improvement, but again the bathroom wasnt very clean. (It was cleaned again upon request). The decor is very worn but the hotel does have a lot of character in parts. The biggest plus is definitely the location - right in the centre of the city - and you get free parking.
Traveler's tip on dining
The Parrot - a wonderful old pub in the city centre with a great upstairs restaurant set in spectacular medieval surroundings. Also try the mussels restaurant opposite the Falstaff Hotel. The choice of mussel dishes is astounding and you get a huge pot - absolutely delicious!
