Service is one aspect they need to really inhance
The hotel is clean and the room I stayed in which is the King size bed with fire place is very warm and comfortable, but the overall service in the hotel is not impresive, you get the feeling that the staff there are not enjoying there work and they are faking the smiles and the hospitality.

We are Repeated Guests
We were recommended by the Saint Mary College at Moraga when our son entered as freshman and had used this hotel on-and-off for many years. The hotel has maintain a very good reputation with their room, their spa facilities and specially their Ducks Restaurant. This is a boutique hotel when the name boutique is still relatively unknown. I highly recommend this hotel either on your way to the wine country or stop-over on the way back. Great value for such excellent facilies.
Traveler's tip on dining
The in house Ducks Restaurant is famous for their pressed duck. Their crab cake is also excellent. Their wine list has good selection and reasonable prices.

Very Nice and New Hotel close to San Francisco
I dont normally write reviews on hotels, but I have benefit a lot from reading other peoples review. Therefore, decide to write about this one, because it is a great hotel and incredibly cheap for its location. The room we stayed at was big (I mean almost twice the size of any regular hotel room with very high ceiling. We got the top floor room but I was able to peek at other room w/o the high ceiling as we walked our way down to the swimming pool. The room is as big as ours. Just w/o the tall ceiling.). The hotel is very new. I am a very picky person on the hotel. But this one is definitely the biggest and best hotel I ever stayed at. We stayed at Omni Hotel (5-star) in downtown SF during our last visit. It costed almost twice the $$$ but only about half nice as the Lafayette. The hotel is only about 15 mins from SF downtown, locate in a very safe neighborhood. The area seems to be new with a lot of nice restaurants just 5 mins down the same street. Definitely recoomending anyone who wants to stay close to SF but dont want to pay for the expensive old hotel in downtown.
