Convenient for one night’s stay if you want to be near Old Towne Alexandria and not pay high prices!

The rooms facing the back area of the hotel are extremely quiet considering the hotel is on Route 1 the main route from Alexandria - Richmond. The front of the hotel lies back a fair distance from the highway but there is obviously more noise in the front facing rooms. Hotel exterior needs a good clean (stairway, elevator, pathways, etc) and rooms are a bit dingy but as can be expected from this low budget motel/hotel. There are other budget motels/hotels in the area, along Route 1 which could be equally as good and are at the same budget price.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Nearest metro station (Huntington) is a 10 mins walk and metro takes 5 mins into King Street, Old Towne. A couple of fast food restaurants across the other side of Route 1 (and there is a crossway) and various restaurants + fast food places within 3 mins drive, 10/15 mins walk + a large shopping center mall within a 5 mins drive, 25 mins walk up Route 1.

Great stay for the price

I’d read other reviews that the hotel was dirty or had poor service but I arrived at midnight after a very long drive and was relieved to have great, speedy service. I was helped right away, arrived to my room faster than most hotels and enjoyed my restful night. The beds weren’t uncomfortable and the room was clean. Overall, a great stay and I’d definitely return if I have to return to that area.

Traveler's tip

The only tip I can offer is to not as the locals where anything is because they pointed me in the wrong direction repeatedly and I was late for an appointment because of it. Apparently they don’t know where they are so just don’t get directions.

great price, easy to get into town

Some of the other hotels down the street were a little scary but Red Roof was nice. I stayed in handicap room - the toilet was run with hot water, so the seat was nice & warm! good price, good sleep.

Average, but convenient

We used this hotel as a "place to sleep". The hotel is older but clean. Free parking, a 15 minute walk to the Metro, and located right off Rt 495. A good value for the budget minded.

Listing misleading

The motel is NOT close to Metro as described. When I asked at the desk, I was told it was necessary to walk across a 6 lane highway and at least a mile down the hill to reach the metro. When I asked at the desk about whether a restaurant in a brochure described as on the same highway was near enough to walk to. I was told it was less than a mile up the hill but hiked more than 2 miles without reaching it. They do provide a working iron and ironing board but shampoo without conditioner and coffee only in office. Laundry room is at the far end of the 3rd floor with no sign stating that detergent can be purchased in the office (first floor at opposite end of motel).

Near airport

It was near enough to the DC airport to catch an early morning flight without paying an arm and a leg at an "airport hotel".

No frills, convenient (but ugly) location, a bit loud

I needed a very cheap hotel for an overnight business trip. The price was excellent, the room was clean, but there were absolutely no frills -- seriously, none, but I knew that going into it. I wasn’t there for the atmosphere. My room had a sign that said "no smoking," but it was clear that smokers had recently been there -- it smelled like smoke. Otherwise, it was very clean and looked to have been updated fairly recently. I needed a hairdryer in the morning, and I called the front desk. The woman told me that I was welcome to stop by the front desk (which would require me to exit my room and walk outside and downstairs in very chilly weather) and pick one up. I let my hair air-dry. The motel is located on Route 1 and is very easy to get into and out of, though you must exit going north on Route 1 towards Old Town, Alexandria. My room faced Route 1, which means that it was pretty loud. I wore earplugs (which I had brought in anticipation of a loud evening), though the sound was somewhat muffled by the heavy door to the outside. All in all, it was an acceptable place to stay considering its purpose, which was to give me a warm place to sleep after an evening business event so that I wouldn’t have to drive the 2 1/2 hours home.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you need a place in the Alexandria area that is affordable and clean, and if you don’t plan to spend any time in the hotel other than to sleep, this is a great value. Ask for a room on the back side to avoid the noise of Route 1!

Wouldn’t go back!

The hotel room did not have an iron board or an iron. When I went to the front desk to ask for one. I was give a portable iron board and a rusty filthy iron. I didn’t even dare to iron my clothes with the it. This was a terrible inconvinience for me. There were also a lot of unsupervised teenagers roaming the premises of the hotel. I didn’t feel safe.
