Clean and comfortable but lacking in services and amenities
This hotel was very clean and comfortable, as was my room (keep in mind this is a single room in the UK, which means its the size of a large walk-in closet with a twin-size or slightly smaller bed). The bathroom was clean and had a huge tub, but the toilet seat broke on my first night, was "fixed" and broke the next night again. The seat seemed to only be attached with some kind of adhesive instead of screws, so a little side motion broke it loose so it slid around every time I sat on it. The employees I dealt with were polite, but there didnt seem to be many of them. I tried to ring the front desk for over 15 minutes one night and no one answered. The hotel directory lists an assortment of services available through the TV but in reality you could only use it as a TV, not access the internet or check out with it. There was also an empty cabinet in the room that appeared to have held a ironing board but which was empty. The hotel also lacks any kind of amenities for purchase, not even vending machines for drinks and snacks. This wouldnt be so bad if there were any stores nearby but the hotel is pretty much surrounded with other hotels and residences so your only option is to order room service if you want a Coke or snack in the middle of the night. So, while I recommend this hotel for being a clean and comfortable place to stay, dont expect a lot of services or amenities.

Staying in this hotel is like traveling through time
This hotel is stuck somewhere in the 1970s. The service, the interior, the plumbing, the single bed are from another time. I remember places like this from my childhood - and not fondly. If you want a little taste of the old Eastern Block in western Birmingham then this is the place for you. Otherwise avoid it at all costs and stay at one of the perfectly normal modern alternatives that line that street and ring that town.
