An oasis from the traffic of Jakarta
The Gran Melia Jakarta is a true jem amidst a bustling city. Set in the southern part of the city center, it boasts 5-star service and facilities: a gorgeous gym, wonderful restaurants, large and fancy bedrooms, stellar service. The only drawback is it’s location. Because of Jakarta’s notorious traffic, it takes 1 hour to get from the hotel to the coast and almost just as long to get to business meetings downtown.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
If you’re coming to Jakarta for meetings, you may want to stay closer to downtown. Traffic from the Gran Melia to the city center means you could spend up to an hour in transit, each way.

beautiful but not well maintained
The staff is very friendly, the hotel beautiful but everything smelled of smoke. People smoke in the lobby, the bedsheets smelled faintly of smoke. The worst part is that the hotel is right next to 2 mosques, with loudspeakers that blast prayers 5 times a day into your room, even through all the closed windows it was loud. I would not go back to stay there it was really annoying. The location is good, the buffets are quite nice, but the Chinese restaurant not good and very expensive. On weekends they put up inflatable slides and toys and loads of screaming children take over the lobby and restaurants.

Convenient area to stay at, except for the above; I would certainly try to stay somewhere else next time.
