Conveniently Close to Everything in Vancouver

This hotel is very clean, nice and convenient for someone like me, who wanted to experience everything downtown Vancouver had to offer. I was within walking distance to stores, shopping and venues around Vancouver, and was also at the heart of the downtown nightlife. The room itself was fairly small, but had everything necessary to enjoy the city (bed, bathroom, vanity). I would most definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

Not bad, especially for the price!

We were just here for one night, but it was in a convenient location, with lots of small food places nearby. The rooms were not luxurious but clean and adequate so no complaints from us.

You get what you pay for - good place to rest your head

It was budget and a good value for the price and staff was nice, but nothing to write home about. I would stay a few other places for the price before I’d stay here again. Needs updating.

Cute hotel

cute rooms and a good restaurant downstairs! bathroom was clean but water would easily drip out of the tub and run out to the carpet outside the bathroom (carpet was a little wet when we got there) but other than that one spot it was fine. room had a little musky smell, but wasnt so bad once we turned on the ac.

Not for those wanting a relaxing stay

Staff were at best, average, internet stopped working, they charge $14 per day for parking (unsecured parking) and a Hotel that is showing its age.

Try somewhere else and pay the extra

For the price....

My girfriend and I went up to Canada for a shopping and girls weekend. The room was reasonable price and had great location for local clubs and shopping. We spent very little time in the actual room it was small- if this was your plan it worked great for us.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Great for local clubs and not far from shopping.

I will never stay on Granville St. in Vancouver again, or at HOJO

Absolutely horrible! The entire neighborhood is torn up and under construction. The front of the hotel has no front. We wouldn’t have known it was the HOJO if there hadn’t been a huge vertical out-of-place neon sign. Upon check-in, we were given a room with 2 twin beds, even though we paid for a room with 2 queens. The rooms were tiny and stuffy. You have to pay an additional 14 dollars a day to park your car (which they don’t tell you about). I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

I’d stay there again

The hotel was close to all the clubs and nightspots on Granville Street. Perfect place to stay for college age guys who only had one night in Vancouver.

Ridiculous parking accomidations (or lack there of)

I was unable to reach the hotel immediately at check and by the time I showed up, the snobby woman behind the counter informed me that they had no other parking and that I would have to use public parking. This meant, either an overpriced parking garage or parking on the street and hoping someone wouldn’t break into my car. This is definitely not something to be done in downtown Vancouver. She was very rude and unhelpful about it. Further more, hotels should offer parking to ALL of its guests, or at least have a back up plan for guests should this issue be run into. Extremely annoying and I am NEVER staying here again.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

A friend of mine and I came here to enjoy a couple of the clubs in downtown which is why we got the hotel in case we had too much to drink. We like to be safe and keep others safe as well. But this is complete BS.

Very Reasonable and Comfortable

It was very clean and comfortable. The only complaint I have is that the manager wasn’t very friendly. Other than that, it was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Traveler's tip

There was a lot of construction going on at the time of our stay which was pretty inconvienent. I would check into that before staying in the area if that is something would bother you.

Not worth a cheap price

We were very disappointed with this hotel. I have stayed at other Howard Johnson’s and been very satisfied. Although I expected to pay for parking since it is right downtown, their lot only held a small number of cars and was full the entire weekend, so we had to find parking elsewhere. There is also an attached bar so we heard the pounding of bass until the wee hours of the morning. Also, someone vomited in the hallway near our room, we were told they would be up in 45 minutes to clean it up, and the whole floor still reeked the next morning. The room was extremely small also. Will not go back, or recommend to anyone ... have had much better luck with other downtown hotels at just a bit higher price.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Saving a few bucks is not worth staying here.

The Hotel location is ok.

The location os this hotel is fine, except to a 3 or 4 sex shops are close to here, and they have open view from street. I travel with my wife and small kids and I think is not good for them to they look it inside this stores and look a lot of magazines with sexy naked ladys. I don’t by on this stores but I undestand what happens, my family don’t. Also the rooms look bigger on internet. In real the room is small. But the hotel service is good. A lot of restaurants, bars and shopping centers ara close. It is very good.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The Pacific Center shop mall is really good and is so close to this hotel.

For the price it was fair

The staff wasn’t overly knowledgeable or friendly but we made it work for us. No counter space in the bathroom. Carpeting was a little dirty in the room. Parking filled up in their lot so we had to park right next door in a dirt lot where the meter machine didn’t work. The hotel did let us stay late on Sunday in their lot for no charge which was nice. It was close to the nightlife and shopping which we liked. We heard some noise out on the street late at night but it wasn’t horrible. Good food in the Wings Lounge next door. Also try Roxy Burger for excellent bar food. Overall we felt it was a value for what it cost.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

For live music go to the Roxy. Most of the other clubs are a real young crowd and DJ "House" music. Get there early between 8 and 8:30 PM on Friday and Saturday nights because there can be a line to get in.

Great Value

Nice room for the price, and the adjacent restaurant is both convenient and tasty, as well as being a good value too. Smallish rooms, no internet from the room although it is available for a fee in a business center. Neighborhood isn’t the most u[scale, but we walked at night (with reasonable caution) and never felt threatened. Parking is an extra $15. Looks to be a nightclub area, although we were there during teh week and for only one night.

Traveler's tip on dining

The sports bar attached to the hotel is a good value and good basic food.

Not great, but the staff were friendly.

We stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights (but ended up driving back the second night as to avoid traffic the next morning). The parking lot was a bit hard to find (it’s right next to the hotel (not free, but convenient), but the entrance is behind the hotel through a small alley that feels a bit wrong driving into). Check in was quick and the woman was friendly. The room was very small. The remote controller for the television didn’t work. Also, there was something wrong with the water. The first night I found it difficult to get warm water. It was all (including in the toilet) very very hot. The room was clean, but everything else made for a very (cough) interesting stay. I probably wouldn’t stay there again unless it was all that was available.

Traveler's tip on shopping

A short walk away is a nice mall with ok shopping and food.

Great location!Near everything!!

My sister and I stayed in Vancouver for a short weekend-trip to see the ISU short track speedskating event in Burnaby.Although burnaby is located a half hour away from downtown public transportation was no hassle at all!The hotels’ location is GREAT!Couln’t ask for anything better with the price we paid.Although the front desk could have been of more assistance, particularly the young woman at the front, not really helpful w/directions and careless but the other staff was very helpful and the cleaning staff was very nice!Clean rooms renovated hotel!Quick check-in and check-out!Very accomodating hotel.Near all buses less than 5 min. walking distance away from the granville island ferry, right on granville street just walking distance from the pacific center mall and the skytrain![the fastest way to get around town]If you’re into the nightlife then stay here!Just steps away from the Roxy,Caprice,Republic and other great clubs on the strip.Nice, safe neighborhood and city overall except that i would avoid going out at night around the chinatown area because its where the homeless people gather in masses.[still friendly but i’d be careful]

Traveler's tip on dining

Just two blocks from here you have to eat at legendary The Elbow Room great food, the biggest pancakes in Vancouver and very friendly environment!Dinner at the Old Spaguetti Factory is delicious and great price for meals-under $12 for entree appetizer and dessert!!Located in gastown by water street. And for souvenirs gastown/waterstreet is where you should get them best price in town, fficial olympic merchandise as well authentic and 25%less than the airport store.

HoJo Vancouver, BC

My husband and I experienced fast friendly service with early check in. Parking is an extra $12 a night, but is right next to the hotel and is well worth it. The hotel is in an up and coming neighborhood with lots of construction and is close to downtown shopping. There is a window mounted ac unit and bare essentials for a hotel room. Would recommend this hotel for the price and is great for a few nights stay.

Decent hotel, good staff

Physical facility a bit worn, but OK. Very helpful staff.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

In area of nightclubs. About a twelve minute walk, partly along a pedestrian mall, to Gastown and the waterfront.
