Barcelo Jose Palacio Hotel is a good hotel, excelent location, very clean, and we recommend to ours friends.

nice hotel, OK location

I thought this hotel was going to be a lot closer to downtown San Jose than it actually is. I wasn’t about to catch taxis all the time so we ended up walking down highways to find more affordable places to eat than the hotel restaurant. It was definitely an adventure. Other than the location, I highly recommend this hotel.

Would stay there again if in San Jose.

Impressive Hotel, Not Good Service

Gorgeous hotel, beautiful accommodations, comfortable bed, great amenities, LOVED that... But the staff and customer service could use a lot of work. No porter came out to help us with our bags, though every other place we stayed (all of them less expensive)did have one, the bartender was very rude, uncommunicative and unsmiling and it took about 20 min wait to get one bottle of wine to take up to our room.

We spent 3 nights in this hotel & were very happy with our accomodations. The room was comfortable & clean, the staff was very friendly & grounds were absolutly beautiful. If I return to San Jose I will definitly stay here.

Great hotel ; front desk mediocre

This hotel is a hidden gem. It is like having a date with the lady who was Miss Costa Rica in 1975 and has taken very good care of herself. I suspect it is very hard for the staff of a hotel to remember that they are in the hospitality business every single minute that they are on duty. But of course, they are.

great hotel in San Jose

the hotel was situated inbetween the airport and downtown making it easy to arrive, visit the city and depart. Has a good pool and good restaurant outside to enjoy the pool and your food. The bar inside is very nice and a good size to have a nice size group to drink with. I would stay here again.

If you have an extra day drive to Jaco at hte Pacific side of Costa Rica..2 hours each way...and enjoy some great sea food and a small active beach town, lots of young people and surfers, interesting drive just do not do it on the busy weekend since it will take 3 hours plus each way

disappointment

Tour guide led us on a wild goose chase..... we arrive by their tour guide and the volcano was closed and did not return our money. ask for a no smoking room and the room was a smoking room. Dining rooms and resturants were closed not opened a times posted

Overall a great hotel

Great hotel for the price, room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only problem we had was with the complimentary shuttle to the airport. If you don’t make your reservation 24hrs in advance, they may not allow you to use the shuttle. One of my friends had to go to the airport unexpectedly, and although the shuttle and driver were right outside the hotel, he would not take her to the airport because she did not have a reservation. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

No hot water or HVAC

I stay their for 4 nights. I had no hot water and no HVAC all nights. I contacted the front deck, problems never got fix. Hotel to far away from town.

I,m going back to Costa Rica in april and will be staying at the Barcero Palacio . It is great !

I’m going back to Costa Rica at lease 5 more times this year, with and without family. Iplan to stay at the Palacio each trip .It is a good value for the buck .

2nd stay at this hotel.

Great hotel. Will always stay here when in San Jose. The food and service at the Ranchero bar (pool) leave a lot to be desired. The other parts of the hotel make up for that one blemish.

A Wonderful Experience

The hotel staff was gracious and warm. We didn’t experience any problems. No long waits coming or going. We checked in effortlessly. A shuttle was waiting to take us to the airport on our departure. The room was very clean. We had a beautiful view. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel walls are lined with artwork by local artists. If we needed anything the staff was more than happy to assist us. The bed was a bit hard, but nothing that we couldn’t deal with. The food was simple, but good and plentiful. We will definitely be staying here when we return next year.

Make sure you take tours. Doing so affords an opportunity to see this beautiful country. All tour shuttles pickup at this hotel location.

Great In-between Resting Location

This was a perfect hotel to stay at after my long flight and before I headed out to my hotel at the beach. The service was amazing and they were so helpful.

I was traveling by myself & didn’t use a rental car, so stock up on bottles of water & wine at this hotel (1.5 liter water was super cheap) before heading out to the beach resorts that are ridiculously over priced for something as simple as water.

Not impressed at all, definitely not my first choice...

Not the most customer service oriented staff I have encountered, I called ahead to schedule a shuttle service, I waited for 45 minutes to get picked up, driver never even acknowledge the fact that he was late, he ignore my comments, spoke to the hotel mgr but nothing happen...room service takes for ever, I asked for a wake up call and I received it 2 hours later than requested?

WARNING - Costa Rica is nice, but be careful with some of the taxy driver’s suggestions, they seem to have agreements with some local businesses and they are not the best places to visit...

BARCELO, San Jose Palacios

Overall the hotel was just OK, nothing to write home about. Room service was inadequate-menu stated one thing-what you got was another... The dining options were not to my liking as well, ate out mostly. The beds were rock hard making it virtually impossible to get a comfortable nights rest. Otherwise, the rest of the stay was ok.

Very friendly staff

The hotel offered many services that we enjoyed. There was live entertainment, spa, pool, restaurants, gift shops and excursion planning services. The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke English. Our rooms were comfortable and spacious. We had a great view of the mountains from our balcony. We would stay at the San Jose Palacio again if we go back to Costa Rica.

We found the Red taxis to be the most economical means of getting around Costa Rica. The Tourisimo taxis offered personal services (drop off and pick up services) for the whole day if needed.

Excellent hotel

Barcelo Palacio is a hotel which I would compare to a Mariott. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, cozy casino, a nice pool, welcoming lobby, and a comfortable room make this a great hotel. This hotel is located outside of downtown, and there is nothing to do in the immediate area, but the taxis are inexpensive to get to wherever you want to go. Highly recommend for a stay in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Dont take the Turismo microbus if you are going downtown as that will cost you $8. Instead ask a bellman to call a taxi which will cost you around $6 unless you are headed downtown during rush-hour.

We had no complaints

We were extremely pleased with all aspects of the hotel, except maybe one. The bed was comfortable but was in need of replacement however it didn’t deprive us of any sleep. Go figure! The management did not just sit around or hide in some out of the way office. They really worked hard to make our stay pleasurable.

If you rent a car in Costa Rica, by all means get a GPS, that is, if you want to save a marriage.
