Economy hotel with a great/practical location
My son and I went to Venice for a short stay and needed a hotel near the bus depot to return to Marco Polo Airport for a very early flight. Hotel Florida is a 10 minute walk from the depot and 5 minute walk from the train station. Their are at 4 vaporetto stops within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The service is friendly, the room small but clean and ensuite. The only drawback is the noise from the alley (voices and pulled suitcases) which could be abated by fully closing the shutters. Due to its ideal location, we were able to return to the room to rest during the day to return to walk the streets again in the evening. There are many economic restaurants nearby. The breakfast is standard French/Italian continental. The hotel service was helpful when consulted and did not hassle us needlessly.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Make sure that you buy extended passes for the vaporetto to cover the length of your stay. We enjoyed riding the vaporetto to the other islands of Venice along with outlying islands. It was a relief to know that we could jump on and off the boats without paying new fees. We enjoyed walking along the canals and waterfronts of the quiet parts of Venice and seeing the real Venetians using the nontourist squares as playgrounds for their young children in the evenings.

Exactly what I was hoping for
Hotel is located within walking distance from the bus station, and near one of the four bridges. The staff was extremly nice and helpful. If your looking for opulence this is not for you. But if all you want a nice clean room with a bed and shower in the heart of Venice, this is it.

Convenient location
This hotel is convenient for those arriving by train, but not if youre flying into Venice. Bus station is near but you must cross three bridges to hotel, which is very difficult with luggage. Front desk staff not very helpful. Breakfast was okay. Our quadruple room was very small, had a musty smell,A/C didnt keep it cool enough and bathroom was very tight. Lots of good places to eat just outside the hotel. Stay at this hotel mainly for the location but dont expect much more.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Skip the touristy looking restaurants by the water and go to a self-service place just down Calle Priuli that serves wonderful fresh pasta.Great gelateria nearby thats much better than those in Piazza San Marco,& one of the best we found in Italy. Dont miss their Bacio gelati! Great shopping near Ponte di Rialto, including designer shops. If your kids are into Geoxx shoes (as mine are), they are much less expensive in Italy than US with many more styles to choose from.
