Pleasant stay--not like the negative reviews we had read.
I booked our reservations for the Liongate hotel before reading reviews about it, not my usual practice. When I did read the reviews (on Trip Advisor, I think), my heart sank, so I prepared my family for an unpleasant experience. Well, the hotel was just lovely. Our room was comfortable and clean and very charming. The staff was very willing to help. The breakfast was tasty and enjoyable. The walk from the station was short, and the side entrance to Hampton Court was righ across the street. 2 issues: 1. The bathroom door to our upstairs room was locked when we arrived, so we couldnt get in right away. The staff had someone fix it right away (apparently it sometimes locks itself). 2. Our radiator wasnt working. The staff couldnt get it to work--but they provided a space heater that worked just fine. We would stay there again.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
We really enjoyed Hampton Court. We adults and our four-year-old daughter liked the tour where the guides dressed up like historical figures so much we did it twice (once from each point of view). The hedge maze was also a big hit. For a good meal thats not overprice, the Golden Curry (or something like that) Indian restaurantin the shops across from the station is really great.

No roaring Lion at the Lion Gate Hotel
This was a last minute booking, so we got, I think, the last room available at this hotel: a 3rd floor bedroom with no elevator in the hotel. Our room was recently renovated with a large bathroom, but the bed was far too small for two people and very uncomfortable! They obviously still need to paint the outside of the hotel. However, the location was great, opposite one of the entrance gates to Hampton Court and the breakfast "Full English" or "Continental" was excellent. For once, good coffee too!
