Gave away our room

After calling to alert the hotel of our late arrival, we arrived to have them tell us that they had given our room I’d paid for already away and they were sending us to another hotel. Once they said they had one room left someone didn’t want because of a cockroach, we waited an hour for them to "change the linens"! The bed sheets were scratchy and the beds themselves were small.

Not the best value

The hotel is generally very good but fails on some small but very irksome points. First, one of the reception clerks clearly needed more training on how deal with guests while under pressure. There was a large crowd checking in and many rooms were not ready at 3:15 PM. He was aloof and snarky when he should have been solicitous and apologetic. When speaking another clerk about my situation, he referred to me as "this guy." I wanted to spank his hand with a ruler. Apart from that one clerk, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. After driving for 4 hours and having to wait for our room to be made up, there was no indoor accommodation for us to have a drink - the dining room was closed, and the pub was booked for a private event. So much for having public facilities on the campus. The room was comfortable with two exceptions. There are no fitted sheets for the beds - the bottom sheet is a top sheet and had to be adjusted whenever I lay down and moved a bit. Annoying. Also annoying is that the towel rack is inside the bathroom yet the wash basin is situated outside of the bathroom on the vanity counter, with no towel hooks. It’s a clumsy arrangement. There was no directory of guest services in the room; and no guide to Athens restaurants, shopping, or attractions. It wouldn’t take much to make this place first class. Meanwhile, it does not represent good value.

Smells like Mildew

If you are expecting a "spa" quality hotel you will be sorely disappointed. IT is really nothing better than a motel. Our room smelled, the A/C never shut off and during the day there were no restaurants open. There is a small swimming pool. It is a two story operation and there is a hopping bar that may have live music at times. The inside of the room was more like a Comfort Inn. Overall the place was clean and they were remodeling a bunch of the rooms. Unfortunately, I think we were in one they had remodeled and it still smelled like mildew. Location is very convenient to UGA, but I will try somewhere else first for the price they charged.

A long, but doable walk into town.
