As eve...FANTASTIC!

We’ve stayed at Ceiba del Mar 11 times and each has been wonderful. Visit number 12 was no exception. In fact, it was the best time we ever had here. The beauty of the grounds, the friendly and professional service, the ease of access, and drop dead great rooms. Food has always been good, but not great, but the new chef has made terrific improvements. We visit Mexico a lot and tried some new places in the past year but we were really thrilled to be back. Ceiba del Mar is perfection for the traveler looking for a small, quiet boutique hotel. Leave the kids at home and don’t expect to party--and please don’t tell anyone. Let’s keep this extraordinary place to ourselves.

Will Be Back

Every so often one travels to a destination that stays in their hearts and minds long after they leave. When my mind needs to revisit a place of peace and tranquility, with extraordinary beauty and wonderful sea breezes, I will think of Ceiba del Mar. I almost hate to share this slice of heaven. It is a place for those desperately needing downtime. In the four nights we stayed, we never got tired of the menus or eating at the hotel. The morning continental breakfast was delivered to our room by way of a hidden cubby hole, so as not to awaken guests, and was particularly charming and appreciated. The staff was first class and made our stay especially memorable. Our thanks to them all. My husband said he had gotten the best massage ever. We will be back!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Not a place for those looking for nightlife but especially nice for those wishing to enjoy the beauty of the stars and sea.

Hope to Return

Excellent small luxury hotel. Incredible service, great food, beautiful grounds!

Traveler's tip on dining

El Pescador in Puerto Morelos - great local place w/excellent grilled fish and lobster. La Oazsis had delicious Italian food. John Gray’s Kitchen was just okay for us.

Riviera Heaven

Excellent service. I arrived to a warm welcome and a glass of champagne, as well as an in depth review of the hotel and its amenities. They didn’t have a room available for me that I had paid for, so they upgraded me to a master suite. The bed is by far one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The spa was beautiful and the massage was relaxing. The pool and beach were well maintained. The only down side to this hotel was the sub par food. Although very expensive, I highly recommend a visit here.

Great hotel for couples

My only suggestion to the management is to change the Head Chef. Service and food at both restaurants is terrible.

Lovely Hotel

The hotel is a clean, quiet, family friendly place (although no elevators)with a lovely pool and a beautiful beach. Our room was sumptuous (really) and everyone was helpful. We arrived on the cusp of a light storm but the dive shop still arranged a snorkel trip out to the nearby reef (a protected area with a huge number of fish). The town is only a 20 minute walk on the beach.

Best place to stay!

Cieba del Mar is the perfect place to stay on the Riveria Maya. It feels quiet and secluded, but you can easily drive to Cancun and Playa del Carmen for more action or drive to a variety of different Mayan ruins. The food at the hotel and everywhere in Puerto Morelos is wonderful!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Rent a car from the Cancun airport. We drove our rental car to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, and several times to have dinner in Puerto Morelos. It was so much better than having to take a cab or take a tour bus.

ok place, poor value

We were looking to host a destination wedding and heard good things; our expectations were not met. We looked at 20 hotels at this price point (e.g. in low season). This hotel couldn’t compare. At other places you might get late night entertainment, plush junior suites excellent service and a variety of restaurants. Our experience at CdM was a very plain "standard room" on the first floor with limited amenities. The minibar was off-limites even with the "all-inclusive" plan. There is just one restaurant to eat at, which is limiting. There is limited entertainment; a guitarist plays to pre-recorded songs. The biggest difference between resorts was the quality of the service. Here, the service is only okay. One example was the valet, who did not perform his duties. We gave up after waiting 15 minutes for our car three times in two days (they had to search for the bellman). We only experienced worse at one other hotel. We were pleased with the quality of the food. I recommend the all-inclusive plan, as we got our money’s worth. As for the pool area, it was pretty nice. There was a swim-up bar and a reaonably nice beach. There is also a pier, a dive-shop onsite along with good diving in the area. In the spa, there is also a sauna and hot-tub along with workout facilities. Overall, its a quiet, remote boutique hotel with reasonably good food and an okay atmosphere (e.g. no spring breakers here); we just felt it lacked that extra something for the price.

Ceiba del Mar-very nice!

My wife and I just returned from Ceiba del Mar and had a lovely time. This was our first trip to Mexico and this was the right resort for us. Staff was very attentive and responsive. Food (especially dinner)was very good. Not pure Mexican, but more Spanish. Do try the hogfish! Drinks a little watered down but bar staff very good. Room (garden view) was comfortable, including the bed. Beach was powered white sand with some rocks as you enter the water. Water was a bit too cool for us to get in. Plenty of beach loungers and shade. There was some snorkeling off the beach near the pier. Bring bug repellent for the evenings. Not much to do in the evenings in terms of entertainment, which was fine with us. Cab ride to Playa del Carmen about $35. You can walk along the beach down to Excellence, about 20 minutes away. We would definitely go back!

Traveler's tip

Upon arriving at the airport and claiming luggage, we were met by a "greeter" who escorted us to another person who ultimately tried to get us to go to the Moon Palace for a 2 hour time share discussion. After 30 minutes of telling I was not interested, we finally go to our van. Be sure to skip this and just ask to be led to you transportation. Also, if you take scissors into the country in your carry-on, you must pack them in you checked luggage to return or they will take them.

Wonderful place

The hotel is amazing; quiet place with very good service. The only point is that often the sea there is not as clean as it is in other areas along the Rivira Maya.

relaxing resort

The hotel was beautiful and relaxing. The service was great until the weekend when the hotel hosted a wedding with 100 guests. It then took 2 hours for a meal, and 2 in service room requests never came. When we called they said they had lost our order. I feel they did not have enough staff to properly host the wedding and attend to the other guests. Once the wedding party was gone, service was great once again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Food at the hotel was good but did not have a large variety. Therefore, I was glad we did not purchase the all inclusive plan and were able to go to other restaurants in puerto morales, cancun, etc....

Amazing Getaway!

My husband and I waited nearly 2 years to take our honeymoon and Ceiba Del Mar was a referral from a friend of a friend. We had the TIME OF OUR LIVES at this incredibly beautiful, perfectly situated, luxury accommodation resort. We didn’t want to leave and extended our initial reservation from 3 to 7 days. The spa saw us each 4 times! The treatments were dreamy! Yoga in the a.m. on the pier! And EVERYBODY who works there was so pleasant, professional, and accommodating to our every need. The maitre D’ customized our dinners to our dietary needs. We LOVED the food! The fresh fruit at the pool! The banana mango smoothies at the jacuzzi! Everything was our favorite! I am telling all my friends to go! Our room was divine! Private jacuzzi and beautiful decor: flat screen tv, 2 bathrms, living room, etc! Just go!!!!!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

You don’t need to pack much. You will find that they have the rooms stocked with soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, q-tips, robes, slippers, and the spa has everything too! So, under-pack. Just pack your swimsuit and comfy clothes and be prepared to relax and enjoy the premises which are divine, eco-friendly, and romantic in the eves.

No need to take the all-inclusive option

My husband and I did not take the all-inclusive option and we were very happy with our decision. We only ate once at one of the 2 restaurants and the food was expensive and not up to the level. It is very easy to eat in Puerto Morelos (we recommend John Gray and Ojo de Agua). For the rest, our stay at Ceiba was fantastic. It was very quiet (no children) and beautiful.

Uneven Quality

Ceiba del Mar is a beautiful property - pool, beach, rooms. However, the food quality at the hotel restaurants is below that of a 3 star hotel AND it is EXPENSIVE (think New York prices)! It is unacceptable given that this property is one of the more expensive properties on the Riviera Maya. For that reason, I would not recommend as there are better alternatives at this price point.
