Akumal is like extended family!

We love the ABR! Got teary eyed saying good bye to the staff. Big role in making our stay special. Smaller, older resort, a bit run down with low water pressure BUT we will always return!! Food is delicious, plenty & very diverse. Waiters and cooks just wonderful! Dine right next to beach. The water/beach/ swimming, snorkeling is just awesome. Love kayaking right above reef full of coral, colorful fish, sea turtles and it is beautiful turquoise. What sand and palm trees on the beach. Shallow and clear water perfect for kids and non-swimmers, who can easily snorkel and float with life jackets. Fresh water pool right next to beach. For family with kids everything is close together unlike the big resorts in area. We miss Akumal and want to go back. I’d love to live there! Hotel lies in bay where sea turtles nest and feed. Have felt as if I were part of Natl Geographic documentary. Akumal "town" 5 mins up the beach for exposure to locals and quaint mexican town. Have traveled alot and the locals here are some of the friendliest, most generous people I’ve ever met! Would I recommend? It depends on who. Some deserve this place; others should rather go to a larger more luxurious resort. ABR is just a very special place and host to a great staff of caring people! Very difficult to concentrate on a book while lounging in front of that ocean. My eyes kept straying. I was totally relaxed there!

The turtles drew us to Akumal. Please go for nesting season and walk with CEA marine biologists at night. If you go on your own, wrap red foil around your flashlights, be quiet and don’t touch the turtles while they are laying eggs! Please also go for hatchling season and and watch them make their way into the ocean. CEA workers will try to collect the babies if they hatch during daytime and then release them once the sun sets to avoid predators swooping down to get them. We’ve been during hurricane season and we’ve been in October. Always a good experience; always a goood time to go!

ABR - wonderful

If you are looking for a totally relaxing time with comfortable accommodations and a 5 star beach, this is the place for you. Snorkling, diving, swimming, canoeing are all available on site for the guests. The staff is wonderful, food is quite good, and it is a great place to meet people and to have fun. I’ve been to ABR three times and I’m planning my next trip back. Everything is included, so all you need is gratuity money. Plan your time today and have fun!

Wonderful beach. Lots of fish and the occasional turtle. Great for snorkeling.

A uniquely Mayan place

Close to Tulum but a long ride from the Cancun Airport, this hotel is truly wonderful if you like caring people, good food, and one of the greatest beach experiences ever, complete with turtles. Only complaint for me was in Mexico wanting you to be at airport THREE HOURS before return flight at 6 am...Getting picked up at hotel at 1:40 a.m. and arriving at the CLOSED airport at 3 a.m. was a bitter way to end a week in Paradisio. Don’t know who to blame on this one. Sat in airport with about sevety people WAITING for Cont. Air. to open their desk.ABSURD. The Akumal Beach Resort, if it can weather the storms of bad press for Mexico these days, is def. a place I want to go back to.Food, service, snorkeling, rest, all much appreciated.
