Disappointing
Even though I had read negative reviews of this place, the positive comments and my desire to support historic hotels took over, and I booked in here for the one night on our trip through. The hotel is located in what must have been the old downtown of Kamloops, and it is near the art museum and lots of banks and some very nice restaurants, but the unsavory aspects of a neighborhood in recovery were still present enough to make me a little uncomfortable. We stood at the front desk for several minutes while the only apparent desk attendant finished a lengthy business-related telephone conversation. The room we got had been nicely decorated, but then had not been kept up as needed (dust ruffle was sagging and torn, for example). The bathroom was small, but clean. In the morning, the sidewalk in front of the hotel was littered with fast-food garbage and broken glass, and no one seemd in any hurry to clean it up. I was really disappointed.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Dont give up on this neighborhood! The river park is within easy walking distance. We had wonderful meals at Rics and Hello Toast, and could have eaten happily at several other places close by. We happened onto the artisan exhibits at the old courthouse too late in the day to see them. I hope that more businesses come in to edge out the sexy nightwear places and consignment shops, but that takes time.

Great access to downtown
We loved the access to downtown Kamloops and to the beautiful Riverfront park. The room didnt have an iron or board, but we were able to get one easily at the front desk. Unfortunately there was alot of noise from foot and car traffic along the street below, even with our window closed. We would probably stay there again though.
