What to expect: The Park South Hotel opened in 2001 in a 1906 building that was once part of Baruch College. Public spaces are appointed with potted plants, leather seating, a gas fireplace, Victorian mermaid chandeliers, and black-and-white photographs from the New York Historical Society.
Amenity highlights: Named after a rum-running boat, the Black Duck restaurant offers pan-Atlantic dinner fare and a complimentary Continental breakfast daily. Sidewalk seating is available in warm weather. The lounge features a gas fireplace and Victorian mermaid chandeliers above an alabaster bar.
Insider tip: A popular photo subject, the 1902 Flatiron Building eight blocks south of the hotel earned its nickname because it resembled a clothes iron.
