close proximity to the beach
overall, this hotel is very nice. The hotel is located on the beach, though the rooms do not have ocean front view

Mosquitos in my room
I am okay with this hotel. The only problem I had with it was the mosquitos in my room. Housekeeping had to go in my room and spray twice a day and I even sprayed myself with OFF. I even took pictures to show to my family and friends because I had mosquito bites all over my body, specially my arms. There was even blood on my sheets the next morning and I kept wondering at the moment where the blood was from.

Good Value for money
The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was clean and welcoming and comfortable. The food was the only let down. I thought the quality and presentation of the food was below average.

Location is Good but the cleanliness is very Bad
When we got to the hotel it look ok from the outside but when we got in to the room we notes the smell of mold and we sow the black mold spots all over the sealing. Avery thing inside the room was so very old and dameged. I ask at the front desk to change the room for us but there was no manager on duty and they had no autorety to do that. They made a note for the manager but no one did anything. Me and my wife came to Antigua to brink my dother to medical school and that was the reason for us to come to Antigua. We had to stay in this hotel for 7 nights and they change the room for us after the 3rd night after so meny complaines. The other room was batter but all the furniture was also so very old. We was happy that it was no smell of mold and it was cleaner then the first room. If I had to comeback to Antigua I will probebly come back to the same hotel and request the same room for the reason that this hotel is cheaper than the other hotels and averything is very expensive in Antigua.
Watch your money!!! They cheating on the exchange, they dont take credit cards and if they do take a c/c they will cheat on exchange. Change your money in the bank and pay with ECD$.

better than expected
great location on lovely bay with only one other neighboring resort. staff was super friendly. while not luxurious, room was more than serviceable; clean, cool, and relatively spacious with comfortable beds.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
go down to the other end of the bay to eat at The Beach -- theres a little food mart in the parking lot where you can get drinks for a lot cheaper than at the hotel.

Exceeded my expectation
Reading other reviews I was not very enthusiastic about the hotel but made reservations anyways as its location was very convenient for us. The hotel exceeded my expectation. The room was spacious with a good size living area. As my son was with us they provided a separate twin bed for him. Everything was very clean. Hotel staff was very courteous and helpful. The food was just okay but overall it was awesome. I would highly recommend the hotel to everyone.
Negotiate when you are shopping as they do come down from the price they quote. Even for water sports such as jet skiing and others... negotiate the rental amount. Food is expensive! There are 365 beaches in Antigua. Devils Bridge and Sherlys Heights are worth seeing. Ziplining thru the rainforest is great.

For the price you pay its ok
Its not the best hotel in the area and the air conditioning can be too noisy, but for the price you pay its ok. Hotels in Antigua tend to be very expensive... The staff from breakfast were really friendly, and you have a taxi service in the hotel that is very convenient.

good hotel on the best beach
hotel is currently upgrading the rooms. this year we had an upgraded room. we were very happy with the improvements. this was our second stay here, and it wont be our last. staff was very friendly and accomodating. one even remembered us from last year.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
try snorkeling, boat cruises and site seeing. we found smokeys 2 hour snorkeling to be the best and the most reasonably priced(@tonys bar and grill on dickenson bay).

Excellent hotel...
..if you get the right room. I did! The Garden View room that I was in appeared to be recently renovated, and everything was in perfect working condition. By contrast, I got to see one of the Superior rooms in the main building, and it was no where as nice as my room. The new manager is committed to bringing the hotel back up to its former high standards, so watch for a great experience. The staff were all pleasant (well, maybe with one exception), very helpful and always courteous. I would go back to this hotel again, for sure!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Make sure you get the buffet meal served for lunch every day at the beach bar. It is definitely the best deal on the island, especially if you are a party of more than one.

Would not reccomend this hotel to my worst enemy
Do not eat at the hotel, and forget about getting a good drink, you have to beg for a strong drink and then add sone more.

Good value and location-needs some improvements
Our room was nice, comfortable and spacious with all amenities available. The only downer was that the bath tub and shower curtain needed changing. Everything is more geared toward all inclusive and the hotel should provide more a la carte meal options for non inclusive guests. The dickinson bay beach is lovely although you should explore all the other beautiful beaches available in Antigua. For dining, "the beach" restaurant, a few minutes walk from the hotel is excellent. There are other good options on the same lane. Also dont forget to try OJs whole grilled snapper.

Old Hotel - needs updating!
I was pretty disappointed in this hotel, especially the room. It reminded me of a roadside inn from the 60s, but on a beach. Employees were friendly & helpful, though the daytime front desk could use a refresher course on the hospitality industry in general. Food was fair at best. The hotel is definitely in need of some major updating.

More than was expected
Reading different reviews, we were a little leary at first, comments like the rude and uninterested personnel....put this to rest, never saw anyone without a smile, reception would always stop what they were doing to answer even the slightest question. Every evening was an adventure on some form of entertainment........to the extent some of the female vocalists could easily make it to "American Idol"...We had the all inclusive and were impressed with the variety and quality of the meals....and again, always a friendly atmosphere and the always present smile.....we will be going to the Halcyon again as soon as our tan wears off.....
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Definitely plan on renting a vehicle, we found 3 days was good to see the island. Forget about traffic signs, if you think you should go right, then go left and youll probably get where you want to be, but if you get lost, just ask anyone and they are more than happy to help you. There is nothing better than getting lost on an island, after all, sooner or later, youre going to hit one of their beautiful beaches!!

OK, but needs TLC by managenment
We stayed here from Nov 19 - 24 on AI plan. Food was fair, seemed some items were "recycled". Not terribly punctual with towel service and some planned activities. Would like for them to let guests know when they were "fogging" for insects so we didnt get caught in the spray and could stay in our room. AI plan only gets two meals at the Pier restaurant and you better book a reservation the day you arrive. We missed out on one of our two because they said they were full. Our sliding patio door didnt operate properly and never actually closed completely, even after asking for them to address the problem. Also had to specifically ask for hand towels. Get in to shower BEFORE the rush - we encountered poor water pressure and luke warm temperatures one day. Beach was ok - but watch your head on the thatched huts. Not terribly clear water while we were there and LOTS of seaweed the first two days. House brand drinks were tolerable.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
They do try to provide some entertainment, which is nice. The problem was that it didnt start until 9-9:30PM and then stopped at 11PM.

Awesome experience
One of the best trips I had to the Carribean. Reading others review I was a little skeptical, but were they way off. I mean way way off. What I found at the hotel was awesome. Rooms were extremely clean and I took the Standard room. My kids enjoyed the trip a lot. Though the food options were limited, there was always something different for each meal unlike other Carribbean hotels that have a lot of food options but recycle the same food for every meal. The locals were extremely friendly and the hotel staff were simply incredible. I wont hesitate to go there again.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
One must definitely go to Nelsons point to learn about the history of Antigua

Not impressed
First impressions are everything. Our first room was unliveable. The bed was straight out of the Flintstones, hard as a rock. The bathroom was stained dirty and without replacement could not be improved. The shower all but did not work. The water just dribbled out. So, we switched rooms with one closer to the pool hoping that they took better care of those rooms. And after being told the new room would be ready by 1:00 we finally got into the new room around 5:00. It was no better. The bed was just as hard, the bathroom was just as dirty and stained and the shower did not work any better. All of the exterior features might have been overlooked if the service was just alittle personable, but it wasnt. Be made to feel like you are in the way and your needs are of no concern is no way to run a resort. The Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, starting with the people that are on the front line.
Traveler's tip
The locals are by far the reason to visit. With the exception of a few beach bum drug dealers the local people are very friendly and helpful. They know all of the best places to eat and party.

Very quiet and laid back
The hotel was perfect to get away from it all. It is small and the grounds are very quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful (especially Tori at the front desk). The beach was beautiful. One suggestion I would have is to have a restaurant open to buy food all day long. The restaurants were on 2 hour fixed schedules for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so there wasnt much flexibility.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
We rented a car and the island roads are not well marked. We spent a fair amount of time stopping and asking directions.

Great for families
We just returned from our stay at the Halcyon Cove by Rex Resorts located on Dickenson Bay, Antigua & Barbuda. My three kids (22, 17, and 12) and I all had a wonderful time. There were plenty of activities for all of us. I took advantage of the Warri Pier Restaurant early every morning (opens at 6:30AM) to drink coffee, eat fresh fruit, and read a good book. I couldnt have picked a better location. The staff was friendly and efficient. The other guests, generally families, were friendly too. Although not included in the price, the vendors providing snorkeling and scuba diving services were very friendly and professional. The quality and selection of food was good to excellent. If you leave a meal hungry, it is your own fault. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
If you want to go scuba diving, check out Mercedes at Island Discovery Divers. Shes a great instructor and guide. Her prices are also very reasonable. We made two dives with her. The first was along a reef. The second was at a ship wreck.

Disgusting Hotel!!!!!!!!!
This hotel was horrible! The linen on the bed and bathroom were dirty, pool was disgusting and the grounds were not groomed at all. Upon arrival there are no bell boys to help you with your luggage, they give you an old cart so that you can push your own bags to the room. The sand on the beach is filthy, i.e. pieces of glass, bottle caps, water bottles, soda and beer cans. The experience at this hotel was horrible, the hotel needs to be shut down for renovations ASAP!!!!!!!
