Good value and atmosphere
The Reef Playacar has a great tropical atmosphere. Different architecture that blends well with the surrounding grounds. The staff are very friendly and cater to families as well as other groups. The Playcar enclosed grounds are very safe and very near Playa Del Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel. Very convenient and a good value.
Best time to go is shoulder or off season.( April-May or Oct-Nov) The water, sand, food, service, etc are the same but the crowds are less.

Only stipulation was the entertainment at night.
Only stipulation was the entertainment at night. Not much. No discotek, just a show and that is it. After 10pm nothing to do at hotel unless you went into town that is walking distance, but depending on the heat might make you think twice about walking into town. Also not alot of people there. Seems more geared to retirees and families.
must see Xcaret tour. everything in Playa del carmen seemed very expensive as far as the shopping and food. etc.

Decent, small hotel on the beach
Was disappointed that only 1 restaurant was open due to low season. The one night they opened a different restaurant, we went into town to eat (Sat night). That should have been made more clear. Also, there are no elevators (lots of stairs). The hotel grounds are beautiful (feel like you are in the jungle/cenote) but very uneven, which also creates multiple steps if you have someone with knee/ walking issues - not a good hotel. Dinner shows were very cheesy and lacked anything to stay and watch for.
