Excellent location - worth the money
My wife and i enjuoyed our stay at the Rex, St. Lucian. Overall, we recommend the hotel, but did experience several issues requiring attention: 1. Bathroom fixtures were old, not functioning properly, causing water to leak regularly from the faucets in both the sink and the shower/tub. 2. Severe water shortage on the island which mandated water shut-off at regulated times throughout the hotel. Of course, this is not the fault of management. 3. TV not working. This was promptly fixed upon report. 4. Never did figure out how to turn on the lamps at bedside, but didnt really need them. Hotel location is ideal, beachfront, close to many good restaurants and a small shopping center with grocery store. Glad we did not choose the "all inclusive" plan, as we like to walk around, have a drink, find a restaurant and enjoy the experience. Try "Buzz" and "Red Snapper" for sumptuous seafood. If its a high-class meal you want, you will not be disappointed with "The Edge", located about 200 yards from the hotel. We found the personality of the island a little less-friendly than other places (this is our ninth island), but very sincere once you break the ice with a smile and greeting. If you enjoy the outdoors and are in good shape, be sure to climb Gros Piton with Gros Piton Tours. It is spectacular, but arduous four mile hike (take good hiking shoes, not sandals). The guides are local folks trying hard to earn a living.

What a Shame!!!!
This hotel sits on perhaps the best hotel site on the island; right on beautiful Reduit beach, and easy walking distance to all the best restaurants in Rodney Bay. The location is unbeatable, but thats the only thing good I can say about this hotel. It is outdated and poorly maintained; rotting structures and abandonned ammenities abound. Pools filled in, bars no longer serviceable, and fences and other structures in disrepair. The very door to my room had been replaced with a makeshift replacement that wouldnt close properly. The A/C worked intermittently. Worst of all was the service. A couple next door had dirty room service dishes which sat outside their door for two and a half days until I demanted that they be removed...Nasty! It was apparent to me that the staff here were not very happy; totally opposite from the friendly hosts that Ive grown accustomed to at other accomodations in St. Lucia. I heard lots of guests complaining. All in all, the place needs to be completely renovated and upgraded, staff included, before Ill try it again.

No water
This hotel is in need of major upgrades. At this point it is marginally acceptable considering its relative price in the St. Lucia market. Exterior, especially, shows signs of significant deterioration. Two of the 4 days we were here they cut off all water to the hotel. Not sure whos fault this was but it was a major inconvenience.
