Very pleased

This was a great hotel to relax and unwind. It is older and has much charm ,which my husband and I prefer to a more contemporary place. The all-inclusive is a bargain! Our oceanfront room was beautiful. It took a minute to walk for a swim or to the restaurant. Food was good enough and plentiful. Staff was friendly. Very popular place with Europeans. Do not miss an excursion to the Pitons. If you can’t get to Hawaii anytime soon, come to St. Lucia.

I would not recommend driving on your own. The narrow roads with hairpin turns are better left to the taxi drivers.

Very good experience

The hotrel staff were very pleasant and accomadating. The room was comfortable and clean. The view from our room of the beach was very good. The meals were somewhat reasonable and affordable. We dined at the ’Chic’ restaurant and had a wonderful and enjoyable evening. A must for anyone staying at the Rex.. A negative expeience at the main dining room is the number of birds that fly in from outside and are allowed to walk allover the plates and utensils that are on the dining tables. To me that should be curtalield as I think it is very unhygenic.

Great place to get away

If going on your honeymoon be sure to make the hotel aware that this is your honeymoon. Meal time are a little inconvience. The food offered is ok but mostly the same meals during the stay. Bartenders are great and the staff is plesent for the most part. Dont expect quick service from the desk. If you need or want something be perpared to get it yourself.

Cheap food

The overall appearance of the hotel was fine. The rooms were clean. However, the maintenance could be better. The food at the buffet was good but very repetitive. The Oriental restaurant was not good at all.

Great place for those who like to explore

Myself and my wife stayed at the St Lucian by Rex for 7 nights. The room was a little out dated and needed a bit of an upgrade but we only used it to sleep so we didnt have a problem with it at all. The housekeeping staff were excellent and cleaned the room every day (plus changed the sheets and towels). The air conditioner wasnt working properly when we got there but it was fixed within a couple of hours after we told the front desk. The maintenance staff (housekeepers, gardeners etc.) and the security staff were extremely nice but the bartenders, front desk and restaurant staff were very rude and unpleasant. It didnt bother us too much as we didnt get all inclusive and just ate out at different bars and restaurants every day. There was a small convenience store around the corner so we just bought some cereal and milk and had breakfast in our room each morning. The location was perfect and the beach was amazing. We spent all of our time on the beach and almost no time in the pool (why swim in a pool when you have a crystal clear ocean right outside your room?). Overall, the resort met our needs. As long as your a pretty easy going person who likes to get and explore and doesnt expect to be pampered, this place is perfect for you.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Make sure you book in a day sailing trip down the coast and to the Pitons. It was amazing and you can meet so many other interesting people.

Solid hotel if you are looking to relax and enjoy the beach

Ideal location if your interest is spending time relaxing on the beach. In the heart of Rodney Bay, right on a beautiful white sand beach. Getting to Castries is expensive by cab however, if you are comfortable taking the local buses you will save a ton of money (US$2 vs $20). Would recommend doing the all inclusive plan too -- the hotel provides three meals a day that are fairly well-prepared while the nearby restaurants tend to be sort of pricey. Very friendly staff.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out Anne-Marie’s at the far southern end of Reduit Beach -- lovely little bar favored by locals and ex-pats. She cooks a delicious meal of locally caught fish every afternoon and sells the best spice on the island. I was unlucky enough to come down with pneumonia on my vacation and Anne-Marie treated me with local herbal remedies -- at no cost. She is the nicest lady ever. It is worth visiting just to meet her, but the setting and food cannot be beat.

lovely hotel

Very good location. The hotel is right on the beach and situated close to many resturants. The Rodney Bay Mall is in walking distance. The food was ok. The staff could have been more pleasant. A wonderful hotel to kick back and relax. The Marina resturant is located right on the beach. I had a great vacation! Hope to return to St Lucia soon.

San Lucia’s Moderate All-Inclusive Resort

The St. Lucian by Rex Resorts is located in the beautiful Rodney Bay, close to restaurants, shopping and night life. The ammenites are average but comfortable. All inclusive is not really all inclusive. The premier drinks are not included, food is limited to only that which is served during regular breakfast, lunch and dinner times (with some items on the menu not included). The staff is excellent and responsive. Bring your own shade umbrella because the resort cannot accommodate you. The rooms are comfortable but ask to have your sheets changed daily to limit bug bites. The best part of your visit will be the many new friends that you will definitely meet.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Bring an umbrella for shade and bug repellent. Be sure to visit Pigeon Island and the rain forest. JET ski rental is an excellent deal. Take out a Hobi cat and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Ask a taxi driver for recommendations on restaurants and outings. Check meal pricing at all restaurants before ordering. Men, long pants are required to dine at the St. Lucia.

good value for partial caribbean view room...food NOT good

The room was recently modernized, new wood vanity and vessel sink, new tile...2 double beds would be better replaced with 1 king or 2 queens.Beach was beautiful and 50 ft from room. in room fridge was very welcome since the hotel food was not good, we kept many items from the nearby market in the room, however, it should be on a table, not on the floor ! location is great, easy walk to many good restaurants and entertainment...just don’t buy the all inclusive pkg...ate 1 dinner and the food was fair to poor...good roast beef and mashed pot. all else was greasy and not good...I would stay there again...

Traveler's tip on dining

walk to Red snapper, charthouse and plantation house for good food...walk the "edge" rest. for GREAT food.

the hotel, the staff, the resort next door

I enjoyed eth all inclusive plan but it was confusing as to which restaurants we can use before the trip. I really like teh hotel personnell but I didnt like the fact that we couldnt use of the chairs in front of ther resort next to us, which is a part of the rex itself, and was asked to pay $25 for beach chairs.

St. Lucian Rex is an ideal getaway spot

I stayed at the St. Lucian Rex during the last week-end in September. It was a wonderful stay and I am planning another trip in the future. The location is convenient to local shops, restaurants, and transport. The beach is magnificent and the hotel is situated right on the Reduit beach. The staff are very helpful and the oceanview room is very spacious and is kept clean by daily maid service. This is an excellent place for a week-end getaway, family holiday or whatever the ocassion may be. I can certainly recommend the St. Lucian Rex as an ideal vacation spot and the price is right, especially if you are on a budget.

Not impressed and somewhat dissappointed

We booked this hotel for our honeymoon, and to say the least it was nothing like what we expected! The rooms were adequate and had a feel of being built - and never renovated since - the 1980s. The airconditioner would not cool the entire room and we had ants on our bathroom the entire week. In addition, when they would come to clean our room, they NEVER replaced everything they took in terms of towels and washclothes. When we would ask for replacements, it would take us asking 4 times throughout the day in order to FINALLY receive something by the end of the day. The food was HORRIBLE! It defeated the purpose of "all-inclusive" since everything was overcooked, mushy, or extremely dry. We were wondering if it was just St. Lucian food, but when we ate at the local restaurants and bars, or when we went on excursions that provided lunch, it was wonderful! These are only a few reasons of why we were not impressed at all with this hotel. Other than the lack of service in every possible way, the hotel is located at a wonderful location in terms of access to local bars, restaurants, etc. And the view is great. I would just recommend staying at another location than this hotel.

great location

The first room we were given was extremely warm and we reported the lack of cooling from the ac on the first day. The second day we reported again early in the am. We returned from divng by 12 noon to discover no one had repaired anything. We reported it again and we were moved to a more spacious beach view room. Thanks!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

We went diving with Scuba Steve’s . Al, Tim and Gerney were great! I would highly recommend the company. The best view is the trip from Reduit beach down the coast to dive in front of the pitons (Superman’s flight) We had lunch at the Ladera Resort which has to be the best view in the Caribbean.

Best Location

This hotel has the most convenient location and best beach. There are night clubs and restaurants across the street. The pool and lobby are gorgeous. The only problem we had was an air conditioner that didn’t work well. Mostly everyone who works there is nice.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

I went to the nightclubs and bars in the Rodney Bay area. Rumors is where you go if you want a night club with dancing (lots of locals). The Lime and the other bars are good for just hanging out. The Igauna is a slower paced drinking place. Don’t expect an abundance of amazing bars. The bars tend to close early also. There is a street party every Friday in Gros Islet that had lots of great local food and dancing outdoors. I highly recommend this.
