Above average three star!
The staff is phenomenal, particularly Gabriela (kind, helpful!). The buffet breakfast is hearty and delicious--and ample (four-hour window). The elevator could be bigger, and the maid service, while timely and efficient, might be better served if they changed sheets and didnt just turn them down (Note: this may not be the practice of Austrian hotels in general; I dont know). The shower was fine (just be careful with your elbows), as was the bathroom. Bring an extra towel if you can, though. TV...well...Austrian TV is horrible, but theres a few channels available, pay access ($20/day). Note to parents with kids: careful about the hardcore Adult channels, which you might accidentally surf through. Theres also a pay minibar (ask also about using the fridge). We were there in early May, just when the weather was turning warmish, so it could get stuffy in the room when the temp got beyond, say, 75F. Window was ample enough, but on weekends, theres an outdoor beer garden down the street that could be heard later into the night. With the window open, some street traffic--heels walking on pavement--and voices. But...but: Locations great. Near post office up the road and a grocery store. A tram stops at the end of the street, and theres a beautiful monastery/church nearby (where there is an Italian pizzeria). Some good restaurants on adjacent street, too, along with pretty shops. Very pleasant and worth your dollar.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Public transport cant be beat (buy a transit pass). And be sure to go to breakfast.

A convenient and pleasant launch pad
This is a small typical European hotel a block from the Rathous subway stop next to city hall and a few blocks walk from the major museums. It is on an inconspicous side street, almost like an alley, that is very quiet as well as shielded. The staff were most helpful and pleasant, and the breakfast is a buffet of two long tables of fruit, breads, pasteries, cereal, egges, cheeses, lunch meats, and more. The lobby is very small but the dining room extra large. Be ready though for small rooms and tiny bathrooms by US standards, but they are clean and neat even though cramped. Most all the key sites of the central city are in reasonable walking distance (15-20 minutes to St. Stephens Cathedral or just hope the subway to all the key spots. City maps for streets and subway are in the lobby.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
St. Stephens plaza is a good place to start. Stop by St. Peters a block from the St. Stephens Cathedral on Sunday evening for an Organ concert, and check out the Mozart quartet playing in St. Stephens other nights. Also Mozarts Requiem has a summer run in St. Karls cathedral--the high domed baroque church. For art museums start with the Leopold that gives a history of the Viennese painters with special attention to the Succession group.

Viennese Hospitality
The hotel is located on a quiet street off a busy avenue. It is two short blocks from the U2 line which can get you to the museums and the opera house in less than 10 minutes. There is a tram line around the corner. The room was clean and the refrigerator was stocked with various beer, wine and waters with reasonable prices. The bathroom was very clean and the television worked well. The bed was comfortable. There was a 3/4 length mirror in the room to make sure you looked your best. There was air-conditioning which was a plus since it got up to 93 degrees F outside during my stay this June. The buffet breakfast in the morning was well stocked and had a wide selecion of items, eggs, sausage, cold cuts, cheeses, pastries, breads, cereals, yougurts, juices, tea and coffee. It went unitl 10:30 am. The front desk reception and staff was very helpful with directions, what to see, and in ordering a taxi to the airport. All in all, I would stay here again. I liked the quiet understated ambience and the very helpful staff.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Take the U2 metro two stops to Museum Quartier and visit the KunstHistorische Musuem. It has a fine collection of paintings and sculptures. Have coffee and Sacher torte there and beat the crowds at the Sacher Hotel. The bookstore has guide books and souvenirs.
