Stone Towns Best
The Serena Inn is a quiet, serene oasis of comfort and modernity in a traditional setting in Zanzibars Stone Town. Breakfast is especially good, with a wide variety of choices but lunch and evening choices in the bar/coffee shop also offer an attractive alternative to the offerings of the more formal restaurant. The availability of taarab music--the traditional Zanzibari blend of Arab, Indian, and African music--most evenings on the seaside terrace also makes it easy to sample this aspect of Zanzibari culture with no effort. Desk and restaurant staff are friendly and seem well-trained. Room was clean and comfortable. Not quite as centrally located to Stone Towns labyrinthine streets and historical attractions as some of the mid-range hotels, but the level of comfort is probably worth the extra five-minute walk to reach the hotel.
