Snake in Room
I was put in the older section of he hotel....rooms were 1960s vintage....old, musty and not user friendly....all liquids in the refrigerator froze....unable to control temperature.....it all ended with us seeing a snake in the room on our last day there.....staff was nice but couldnt make up for the other issues.....

Absolutely amazing!
This resort is stunning! The Southwest architecture is amazing, the small botanical garden had various desert plants and cacti and there were plenty of exotic birds, including hummingbirds. One night, we heard coyotes howling. We checked in late, and the room booked originally was sold out, but they upgraded us to a huge room overlooking the opera house. The room was neat and clean and the staff were very friendly and courteous. It also helps that Carefree doesnt have the "big city" feel to it, so staying there felt like a true getaway! Very affordable (after an Expedia discount) and we were not charged the resort fee. Highly recommended!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Check out the San Xavier Mission south of Tucson, AZ (about a 2.5 hour drive from Carefree). Also try the panneer rolls at the Kababeque Grill in Tucson (University District).

Love It -Too bad it may close!
We satyed here in 2006 when we got married. Went back again this year for our 3rd Anniversary and found out Carefree Resort is in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and were heartbroken! I hope someone will buy them. Theyve been there for 46 years! I would love to go back again and again, but may not be able to. Richard
