Aston at Poipu Kai

Great Location

We enjoyed the quiet location and yet it was only a 3-4 min. walk to Poipu beach and we swam and snorkeled every morning 6:30 am with sea turtles and reef fish. As this was a condo the house keeping was excellent and facilities delightful

Planning on going back

Extremely impressed with accommodations and all personnel. "Checking in" was fast, friendly and courteous. Not air conditioned, but with the tradewinds and ceiling fans it was very comfortable and relaxing. Would recommend this place to all my friends.

Great Deal

For the number of stars the hotel had and the price I would say this is a steal. The two things I didn’t like was that I don’t think there was a thermostat in the condo and was cooled only with fans (although the weather is great which is probably why you don’t exactly need one) and the bathtub was clean but lots of mildew on the grout.

The overall ambience of this place is great, the grounds are beautiful and the amenities(gas grills included) are well kept. The ’Kitchenette’ was really a full kitchen and this is where the attention to detail really showed. I’ve never before stayed in a kitchenette where so much was already provided - dish detergent, salt & pepper; even coffee provided on a daily basis. There was even a package of laundry detergent with the washer and I’ve NEVER seen that before. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes to have options to cook and would like to stay in a lovely place. Oh and the waves crashing on the rocks within walking distance are stupendous.

THE CONDO COMES FULLY EQUIPPED WITH KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY FACILITIES. ONE CAN BUY SOME GROCERIES AND MAKE HOME-COOKED MEALS WHENEVER PREFERABLE. PLENTY OF BBQ GRILLS ARE READY AT THE PREMISES. THE BEACH IS NEARBY AND MANY PEOPLE GRILLED THEIR FOOD AT THE CONDO COMMON AREAS OR HAD PICNICS BY THE BEACH. FUN AND RELAXING!

An Average Condo

We stayed in the Kahala section (building 6) and had a ground floor unit. We could see the ocean past the palm trees and was great for watching the sunset. The unit was slightly run down, but clean, comfortable and well enough stocked. Poipu Beach Park is a short walk away (less than 10 min.). We particularly liked that the resort had many gas grills located a short distance from the units. This is a great place if you are looking for a comfortable but not luxurious place to stay on the south shore.

Very Nice

Would definitely recommend. Upgraded to a three bedroom "home" vs condo. It was fantastic! Easy walk to the beach. Staff was very helpful.

Would definitely recommend staying in the Poipu area. This is the sunny part of the island. It was 80 degrees and sunny every day. Most of the rest of the island was overcast and rainy. Not the case in Poipu. You can count on sunny days almost all of the time. Great location. Easy walk to the beach. Plenty of groceries nearby.

Would go back

The condo was very spacious and comfortable. The appliances could use some updating but they worked fine. The location is great, the grounds were beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Served Our Needs Well

I hear that quality depends on unit. Ours was nothing fancy but just fine with one exception: it was right on Poipu Road. The unit was clean and very roomy. It was like having our own townhouse apartment with maid service. Ours was a garden one bedroom, but we were surprised to receive another loft bedroom. Main feature with kids: We used the washer/dryer constantly.

Get the "Blue Book" -- it is accurate. Safeway in Kapaa has great deals if you have a Vons or Safeway card. Lydgate or Baby beach for small children.

Not impressed

This was our 2nd stay at Poipu Kai, and we were very disappointed in Room 532. The view was great, but this room needs some attention! The carpets were so dirty we always wore slippers. The screen door kept falling off. It seriously needs updating. As a reference, we stopped to look at other units in the Poipu area and at the same price range, could have done so much better. The front-office staff were helpful but the housekeeping staff was lacking. The grounds were well kept up, but the barbeques not all maintained--we had to search out 4 different BBQs before we found one that worked.

This was our first experience with a stay in a condo and what a great stay. Very friendly staff and excellent facilities. The condo was extremely clean, well appointed, and very large and comfortable. I would recommend this resort to all friends and family.

For those travelling with small children, both Poipu and Lydgate parks have great baby beaches for the little ones to play at and good snorkelling for the bigger crowd at the same location. I also recommend having a Puka Dog for lunch...they are delicious.

Resort Quest Poipu Kai

We recommend this hotel highly! Our room was exceptionally clean, nicely decorated and perfectly located - we were walking distance to the beach (which is one of the best for snorkelling), our room was so well equiped it even had body boards for surfing and extra snorkelling gear! It rained during our stay but we were provided with an endless selection of movies and board games in our room as well as a full kitchen with all the appliances, cookware and cutlery to make a gourmet meal. We had a super time!

Try "snuba diving" (a hybrid of scuba and snorkelling) - there is only one company in Poipu that offers it (so make reservations-they don’t operate on Sat. or Sun.) but it is well worth the experience and you can get a dvd of yourself surrounded by hundreds of tropical fish some which are found only in Kauai!

Caution-Units are individually owned, quality and upkeep can vary

Location-fantastic! 5 minute stroll from Brennecke’s beach in beautiful Poipu. We had a unit set off from the main road (Poipu Road), by request. This is a management company that rents individually owned units in several, closely situated condominium complexes, some close to Poipu Road and many set back on well kept grounds. Our unit definately needed some TLC. The kitchen, especially, was in need of repair. The baseboards had been pulled out and the corroded underboards were exposed. The dishwasher looked worn and the tile was in need of replacement. The unit (in Manualoho condos) had Aloha spirit and was quite comfortable in every other way. The biggest issue I had was that when I walked in there were mouse traps a (3 of them) all over the kitchen!! I know that in a tropical climate like Hawaii, there will be occasional issues like this, but the management company’s job is to make a guest feel as if they ARE NOT the billionth person to sleep in a bed or wash in the sink. That is what this place was lacking. They need to make me feel as if I am walking in to a fresh clean sanitary room that has been well maintained. I didn’t feel that way. The staff at the front were very responsive, but I believe Resort Quest needs to set a higher standard for the basic maintenance of the units they rent. If they don’t it reflects poorly on them.

Sunset drink in the bar at the Beach House (Poipu/Lawai) was Spectacular! We didn’t have dinner there and the restaurant appeared to be full of extremely stuffy and picky eaters. In the space of about 45 minutes, 3 diners sent back their orders (without touching them). Either the restaurant was having a tough night or these people were cranky from all the rain!! But, the view is fabulous.

A nice place to stay

This condo resort was well-maintained and clean. We learned at the time of check-in that there was no concierge service at the resort, but we were nevertheless able to arrange all of our tours with ease. Nearby shopping was available in the town of Koloa which was about a five-minute drive from the resort. The swimming pool at the resort was nice, but it did not have a jacuzzi. The beach was beautiful and within walking distance, but the rocky bottom tended to scrape up my feet a bit.

The Smith Family riverboat tours to the Fern Grotto represented the best value tour my wife and I experienced on Kauai. It was only $20 per person for the tour which included live musical entertainment and a hula lesson on the boat during the trip back to the marina!

Disappointed

Location of condo was very close to road, so it was extremely noisy. Pools were ok, but nothing special. Furniture in condo was dated, bathroom was dated. The condo was clean. Internet access was not free, charged for extra laundry detergent. Felt nickled and dimed for everything. Major disappointment.

Great location, would definately go back

This condo with a garden view was a little older, but it was very roomy. Too bad none of the condos have air conditioning, but if you request another fan it should stay cooler. I would have loved to stay in a ocean view room, but they were much more expensive! Everyone was very friendly and we got to check in early with no problems.

Great Place to Stay

This is a great place to stay if you want a quieter place to hang out with a close walk to beautiful beaches, great snorkeling spots, Old Koloa town and Poi Pu Shopping Village. Poi Pu Kai is a great part of Kauai... probably the nicest spot to stay on the island if you’re looking for something fairly central to the other parts of the island. The grounds are beautiful as well. You have the use of a kitchen which helps to save a bit of money by not having to eat out for every meal. We stayed here for 10 days on our honeymoon and came home everyday to a spotlessly clean place with fresh towls and linens. We loved it and are looking forward to returning someday down the road :)

Head to a local market (there’s one almost every day on some part of the island) and buy delicious local fresh fruits and veg... and make your breakfast in your condo!

I love ResortQuest!

This was our very first trip to Kauai and our first time staying at ResortQuest. We loved staying at ResortQuest at Poipu Kai. Our Condo was very clean with many ammenities. We loved the lush landscape and easy access to the beach. The maid service was excellent and the pools were very clean as well as the hotubs. A very nice relaxing place to stay in beautiful Kauai. We will definately use ResortQuest again.

Try out the snorkeling on the island. No need to go scuba diving when you have so many beautiful colored reef fish close in to the beautiful beaches. Watch for green turtles. You may end up snorkeling with a few of the curious creatures adding extra fun to your snorkeling fun.

Perfect hotel w/great location

Fantastic location for some of the best beaches on the island. Great space in the hotel to sprawl out, and the fully furnished kitchen was priceless. Definitlely worth the price, great hotel.

Book early for all activities, ie helicoptor tour, zip line, Napali cruise, kayak river run.

We would stay here again

We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to our room. It was decorated very nice, clean, and had a wonderful view. We would stay there again.

Good Value

We were very happy with our choice of accomodations. These are condo’s rather that hotels so it was more of a home away from home.They have full kitchens with appliances so you could cook or make breakfast which beats going out for every meal. We were walking distance from the beach and on the sunny southside of the island.It is a small island so everything is within 1.5 hours away. The condo’s were very quiet and peaceful so if you want to relax this is the place, if you are looking for action you might try a different island or a resort.

Grocery shopping can be hit and miss for quality and price. We thought the Foodland had the best of both selection and price. A trip to WalMart can save money on souviners and Macadamia nuts and odds and ends, sun hats, lotion, snacks etc.
