Cheap, but bad neighborhood & crappy room

If all you care about is cost, then go for it. It IS reasonably priced. However, you get what you paid for. It felt more like a motel than a hotel. The room was tiny and the bed cover had a large hole and a large red (blood? wine?) stain that was never taken care of, even after asking for a new one. When I asked for a blow-dryer, they told me to come down and get it myself. But the main problem is the neighborhood. It’s tucked away in a little enclave that doesn’t feel safe. I wouldn’t recommend going out at night. Even the hotel staff knows this - they stay behind bulletproof glass. If you’re a single guy who doesn’t mind roughing it to save a few bucks, then fine. I think families (women & children) might feel unsafe. All those people who gave this "hotel" a high rating must be the employees and owner.

Traveler's tip on dining

Conveniently located right off the freeway (395?). One all-you-can-eat Korean restaurant (looked popular) less than 5 minutes away.

Not impressed

I booked this hotel primarily for the attractive price and the complimentary shuttle to National Airport. There was no such shuttle. Aside from what I suspect are drug dealers milling about in the neighborhood adjacent to the hotel, it was a decent stay. I am not in any rush to return.

Fairly good

There is bus station not far from the hotel. So it is easier for you to travel around Alexandria and DC. Wireless internet availible. Not perfect but it is very inexpensive.

Dark and depressing

Unless essential for budgetary reasons, I suggest this place be avoided.

Washington Getaway

Internet service was available but not dependable. I had to leave the hotel frequently and visit another wireless hotspot to work or get travel information needed. The kitchenettes are very outdated. My kitchen sink backed up. I reported to front desk, but it never got taken care of during my stay. My stay was 10 days. The full size fridge is convenient. Location is great for D.C. attractions. Great Sushi place within walking distance, but pretty pricey!

Worst then the Bates Hotel

This had to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel is old, furniture is broken, and carpet ripped. The surrounding area was so dirty, and with it endless police sirens and loud hotel guess it was hard to sleep through the night. In fact, it was only my third night, and my license plates were stolen from my van. To make it worst, I had Oklahoma plates. Stay far away from this hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The DC area has many great attractions to see. You can purchase an all day metro pass with guide book to help with your visit.

Should have spent more for a better hotel

This hotel was nice in regards to its cheap pricing. That is really all it has going for it. It was hard to locate, even with a cab driver driving. The nearest Metro (Van Dorn Starion - Blue Line) is about a 10 minute bus ride away. Walking to this Metro stop is out of the question. The hotel was no frills. No pool, no restaurant, no coffee or breakfast in the mornings. They do have a coffee maker, stove, and microwave in the rooms (random). The area it is in is also a little on the ghetto side. Looking back, I wish I would have spent a few bucks more for a nicer place to stay

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you do stay here, and plan on using the Metro to see D.C., Van Dorn Station is the nearest to this hotel. To get there, you will need to take the Dash Bus, AT1. It goes to the Van Dorn Station after about 5 or so stops.

OK for the money

I stayed there Friday to Sunday in August. I needed a hotel close to a conference I was attending. After doing a lot of shopping, it was the most economical choice for it’s location. The hotel and rooms are definitely outdated but the renovations made it adequate. The room included a kitchenette which was something I was looking for. The rooms are not somewhere you would like to hang out all day in but considering I was at the conference from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 each night it worked out. It is close to--what was described by someone who lives in northern Virginia--a high crime area. However, the parking lot was well lit and located just outside the front door. I did not ever feel unsafe. It is extremely close to I-395 so the traffic noise was quite loud. The room I had faced I-395. If the sound of high volumes of traffic whizzing by nonstop keeps you up, stay somewhere else. It is only about 10-15 minutes from Oldtown Alexandria and has easy access to I-395. Landmark Mall is just down the street. All in all, I was looking for an economical place to stay and for that area, my expectations were met.

Was okay for price

Was hard to find, was down a back alley. They couldn’t find my correct reservation. Was in a place I wanted to be in after dark. The room I did get was nice. Appreciated the roomy room and queen size beds.

Low end hotel

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the hotel is low grade. Light bulbs needed replacement, TV remote had been stolen, some guests seemed to be month to month tenants on low income.

Not impressed

Although I have stayed with this chain previously and found its other properties certainly acceptable, this property was very disappointing. Cleanliness was marginal at best, the staff was unpleasant, and the whole place had an nasty odor clearly intended to cover one even less desirable.

Worst place we ever stayed!

When we arrived in our room, it had not been cleaned. We were sent to another room. There was a terrible odor, smelled like roach spray. Carpet at bathroom door was soaking wet and bathroom floor was sticky. (roach spray?) Tub did not drain at all, after 2 people showered, there was 8 inches of water in tub. There was one washcloth, no cups or glasses. One hanger in closet. There was a coffeepot with no coffee or cups. The tv sound kept cutting off & on, the HBO guide was for the previous month. All hotels in the area were booked, so we had to stay.

Traveler's tip

DON’T STAY HERE!

impressed by the kitchen and supermarket nearby

nice and economic place to stay. You can save a lot of dining money by making full use of the cooking appliance in the hotel room. And receptionists were pretty helpful. I would almost say I was satisfied with the service except for the one day our room was forgotton to clean.

Must Avoid

Strong candidate for worst hotel I have ever stayed in -- shabby and depressing. I have been travelling extensively in advanced and developing countries for 40 years. And about wi-fi internet, not even the hotel manager could connect his own laptop from my room.

Okay, but not sure we’d go back

Staff was great; room was clean & definitely comfortable; close to conveniences for longer stays (grocery store, pharmacies, laundry, shopping centers, attached restaurant great!); close to Alexandria & DC for tourist/business; manager very accomodating when we decided to cut our visit short....but we would only give a "qualified" recommendation because: window did not completely shut (skewed in the frame so air conditioner on all the time & as soon as it would cycle off, heat/humidity would pour in); mildewy smell in room; heavy chlorine odor/taste in water (so much that I used bottled water for drinking & to brush teeth); my daughter sneezed anytime she was in the room & my allergies went into high gear (my allergies & her sneezing subsided as soon as we changed hotels). Our biggest reason for moving to another hotel: neighborhood for two single women, coming and going at night--not sure about safety (parking lot is completely light at night), so we avoided after-dark activities. We did not request another room--I’m sure they would have accomodated us, but decided we could live with what we had until we moved on to another hotel.

Not the best place you want to stay. Unless you are broke and you staying for like one nite other than that I would not recommend it at all. The towels were dingy however the room was big more like a suite with a fridge and microwave. That’s besides the point. I really would not recommend it.

Good place to stay in the DC area.

The queen size bedroom was very clean and private. With the kitchenette, dining table and sofa bed it was like being in a studio apartment. Very quiet on a dead end street, some highway traffic but not too bad. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We put out our Do Not Disturb door knob sign for two days and our request was honored and that means a lot to me. Plenty of restaurants with a lot of ethnic variety and two grocery stores within walking distance of the hotel. A taxi stand was next door. There is a Ballys Gym within walking distance from the hotel that when you showed your hotel key you were able to workout for free. That was nice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to DC.
