Showing its age
Room was clean, functional and quiet. Hotel is "showing its age" -- few frills, no extra pillows, mattress getting thin. Continental breakfast was cold cereal, mini-doughnuts and coffee. Staff was courteous. Recent roadwork along the interstate made access difficult--you can see the hotel from the interstate but have to go a couple of miles out of the way to get back to it.
Traveler's tip on dining
In LaFeria, skip "StuffedGut’s Barbeque", horrible, any way you think about it. In Harlingen, if you don’t have a couple of hours to wait, skip the "AppleBee’s"--service is too slow. The Denny’s in Harlingen was very good --service and food. If you go out to South Padre Island, the seafood restaurant by the lighthouse (on the left before the bridge) is very good--portions are generous, food tasty and service good.
