Great Vacation - RIU Is Always Impressive
My husband, daughter, son-in-law, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter just returned from a week stay at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril for our 30th wedding anniversary. We all had a wonderful time. This RIU is absolutely beautiful! The wait staff is always willing to help "no problem". Andrew and Diana at the pool bar were great. The food at the resort is very good . We ate at all 4 of the specialty restaurants we we enjoyed all of them. The Japanese and Steak House were are favorites. You dont get very much food at the Krystal restaurant. We had to go to the buffet after we ate there so the guys could get some more food. They were all still hungry. The buffet on Jamaican night was excellent -- they even had lobster tails. They were delicious. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning too. We really had no complaints about the food at all. You can always find something to eat. The pool and beach are gorgeous. The jerk chicken hut at lunch was delicious and we had it for lunch every day. They should put a bar at the beach. It is not very convenient to have to go to the pool bar to get a drink if you are at the beach. All in all, this was an excellent vacation. I would go back next week if I could. We are planning on trying a different Riu next year. For the price, this type of vacation is the way to go.
We went our our vacation the last week of October and the occupancy at the hotel was around 40%. The pool and beach were never crowded and the weather was very good. The clouds do roll in every afternoon but it only rained 2 days we were there and then only for a short time. The sun always came back out. I would definitely go to this type of resort when most kids are in school.

Great Vacation!!
We loved the Riu Palace! The staff was extremely friendly & fun. The food was amazing & the shows were entertaining. The bartenders were great as well. So many different water sports to enjoy & also a b-e-a-utiful stretch of beach to relax on. Only a 20-25 min drive to Ricks for cliff jumping and a 15 boat ride to reefs for snorkeling. The hotel & pools were fantastic. We really enjoyed being able to walk to the sister resort & use their facilities as well. The only negative thing I have to say is that I wish there were activities/locations closer to our resort that we could have visited. However, being all-inclusive there was no need to leave if you didnt want to. I like to see the culture of a country more when I travel and will keep that in mind before I choose all inclusive again.
We were there October 23-28. IF you are looking for calm and relaxing this is the perfect time to go. However, if you are young or single & looking for more than that I would stick to spring break & summer vacation. Most of the people we met on our trip were newlyweds or retired couples.

"It was just okay"
Maybe because I have done alot of traveling around the carribean. The resort was okay. Thankgoodness I read the other reviews about making reservations to the restaurants..though the buffet was better than the restuarants. Entertainment at the resort was great. They did a Michael Jackson tribute while I was there, and that was my favorite part!! Room was nice..house keeping took forever. Overall, for the price I guess it was okay. Just wasnt blown away..
