Ghost shower

Arrived from Auckland at around 7pm. Went to bed around 11pm - very tired. Woke up a little later as water was running in the bathroom. Turned out the water came from level above. Called roomservice who called maintenance - but did not express regrets. Maintenance man said water was due to blocked pipes in bathroom above. Roomservice/lobby (Was too tired to notice which) called to ask if we wanted to change rooms. Accepted. Said we should call back when ready to move (repacking). Bellboy came with keys for new room. Did not offer to carry the luggage. Had to ask him. New room on same floor, but looking right into another high-rise building and was stale-smelling. When checking out next day to fly to Frankfurt, nobody said they were sorry or even asked if we had a pleasant stay (which would have permitted us to explain what happened). Have stayed at Singapore Fairmont on several occasions and feel that service level has dropped.

Good location and staff

We spent 4 nights in the hotel and were very satisfied with the size and quality of the rooms, the staff support, location, and hotel amenities. We stay there again. Hotel is connected to a mall with the traditional mall retail and restuarant outlets and city grocery - so very convenient for snacks or stopping to kill a few minutes. There is also an MRT station which is an easy 3 minute walk through the mall from the hotel.

The hotel package including breakfast was excellent with an extensive buffet and great service. The hotel location was very convenient with covered passage (to avoid the constant rain storms) to the subway system as well as being just across the stree from Raffles. Nice exercise room with lots of equipment. Excellent room & friendly, helpful staff.

Great stay at the Fairmont (Formerly the Raffles Plaza Hotel).

I just stayed there and it was as great as usual. I also stayed there about 3 years ago, when it was called the Raffles Plaza Hotel. Back then I was upgraded and was the first guest to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms. On this last trip, week before last, I was once again upgraded, upon check in, and given a beautiful room. I’ve been vacationing in Singapore regularly since 1998. I’ve stayed at several different hotels. The big advantage of this one is the location and that it’s connected to the Raffles City Shopping Mall (lots of food selection and a grocery store) and the City Link Shopping Center located below it. It’s also right at the MRT (subway) station. I very easily took the MRT from the airport to the subway stop right underneath the hotel and mall. It couldn’t be easier.

Great Hotel

I was working in Singapore and had my mom and aunt stay at Fairmont for 10 days The hotel room was very clean and spacious and quiet. It also had a nice balcony. The room cleaning staff were very polite and discrete and were close-by most of the day to work around the guests schedules. The hotel is situated in one of the best malls so there is direct access to upscale shops, but also various restaurants and a very good supermarket. A major metro stop is also in the complex The river is within waling distance. Orchard street is a sort $5 taxi ride. Given that most flights to Europe depart late at night and checkout is noon, the hotel provides a lounge with even shower facilities. (There is also a nice pool area at the 8th floor) There are so many regulations in Singapore, but at least this way it is one of the few "safe" places to experiment with street food in Asia. Make sure you eat where the locals do: at the food courts and above all the food street in china town: both the food and the general atmosphere are unforgettable. Try Singapore Laksa and Chilli Crab (one of the best foods I have ever eaten) Restaurants by the river are more touristic, but still the view is very beautiful. Play it a little difficult and bargain (for discounts, free beer, or a larger table so both people can have the view.... Alcohol is expensive (but in Chinatown beer is almost half price). Go to night safari; Take the cable car from Mt Faber to Sentosa - don’t miss the underwater world.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take the boat tour in the river at night. Ride the observation wheel near sunset to see the view both day and night. Visit Little India on Sunday. Eat at the Arab district. And if you stay for long, it is very easy to plan a weekend in Thailand (~1hr flight) or Malaysia - KL or Melakka (more scenic): their buses are like plane business class and the road is high speed highway. In short, be hungry and ready to explore: Singapore is small but full of life - one of the best trips I have ever done

Great Hotel, Reasonable Price, Excellent Location, Clean and HIgh Class

Fantastic stay at this hotel for 3 nights en-route to Europe for our honeymoon. Things that impressed me: Quality toiletries Complimentary Slippers (rare find in this price range) Bath Robes and plenty of towels Fantastic Room Service (They bring a fully set up dining table up to your room and unfold it like a transformer). Clean / Quiet / A Grade Location (Across the road from Raffles) Large 37" LCD TV in a standard Room (Great) Hotel joins internally a major modern shopping mall. Things that didn’t impress me: We asked for a late check out, they wanted double our nightly room tariff for a late checkout- a little disappointed they could not accommodate our request at a more affordable rate - OR at the very least late check out at the same cost as +1 night. Complimentary use of a hospitality suite was offered allowing me to have a shower late in the evening before our flight to Germany - this was definitely appreciated given the hot-humid weather. While waiting in line for checkout I was handed a cool moist towel to freshen up - a very, very rare service offered these days in the price range this hotel pitches at.

Another bonus (unpublished) is that the Equinox restaurant located in the same building as the hotel (accessed via the Swiss hotel) on the 70th floor has amazing views across Singapore and offers certain AMEX card holders 50% off) - ask concierge for more details as the 50% covers a range of restaurants within the complex. The in-room magazine at the hotel doesn’t mention the discount (we discovered it by accident), but when we asked about it, all the staff knew which restaurants it covered.

One of the world’s finest hotels

This hotel is absolutely beautiful and the service is 5 star. The dining is excellent but pricey compared to places out and about in Singapore. The pool and gym are awesome as well. I would love to go back and stay at this hotel!!!

Traveler's tip on shopping

Must go to Mustafa in little India. It is the best store and has tons of fabrics, watches, collectables, and clothing. Also, must go to China town.

Friendly in a mannerly way

The room was clean and comfortable. The people were very helpful in every way.

Hire a cab by the hour,vans available, to see the city. It is more comfortable especially for families and you can see more.

Very convinient location

Fairmont Singapore is a very comfortable hotel, providing very good service to its guest and it has great location, just across from Raffels hotel, close to shopping. Breakfest is really good and the products served are fresh and yummy. I did not like the Willow Spa. It is really poor compares with Asian Spas lie e.g. CHI. It does give you basic, I would not consider it pampering. Swimming Pool area is quit small and it could be over crawded.

Very Good business type hotel in great location

Hotel is connected to a large upscale mall, a MRT station, and another hotel, The Sofitel which can be used for additional restaurants and bars with beautiful views of city.

Room broad band internet service was free but, for those without a computer the internet service at the business center was costly. Within a block of the hotel there are many cheap internet cafes.

Convenient and luxurious

Greeted kindly by the staff from the taxi point and also given a free upgrade. Provided baby cot without charge...what else can one want?

Good place that is perfectly located.

The service was great I even received a free room upgrade for just asking. The room was great with a northern view over the famed Raffles Hotel. The only cleanliness issue was the mildew on the shower floor where the wall and floor met. Their internet charges are expensive. The hotel is attached to the City Center shopping center allowing for many food and shopping choices. It is located at one of the only two MRT stations that allow access to the two main lines making it cheaper to travel throughout the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel due to the location and quality of room.

Excellent service from the moment of arrival until departure. Very comfortable and reasonably priced. Great location for sights, restaurants, shops and transport.

Great Value, Great Location

This was a phenomenal hotel for the price in a perfect location in Singapore. I would highly reccomend anyone visiting Singapore to stay here who is looking to spend in the 200 USD a night range. The hotel was great, service amazing, and room large. It is a bit on the old side in terms of room decor and feel, and the TV’s are miniscule, but those are minor details compared to the overall experience.

Excellent Location

While the hotel is a bit "old" by Singapore standards and it is by no means intimate, the rooms and facilities are in excellent condition and the staff really seems to care. Large rooms even in the basic category.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Perfect location for business trip - on top of major subway exchange with direct connection to business district, Orchard Road, Marina, etc. and convenient to airport. Above busy shopping mall with many dining and shopping choices. Indian restaurant on 3rd floor is excellent.

Excellent Hotel

Stayed at the Fairmont for a family holiday the weekend during Singapore Independence Day. Hotel service was excellent throughout stay, and at reception upgraded our room to have a view of the fireworks during the ID celebrations. Ordered room service twice - food was very good both times. Overall, with all the choices in Singapore, Fairmont is an excellent hotel in the 4.5 star range.

Excellent location

It is an excellent location. The hotel breakfast is great, so I recommend people choose to include the breakfast -- It would be $26 to include vs $40 pay by yourself. However, you can get very good and varied and very cheap food in the connected shopping complex/mall. My only complain is the restroom’s flushing machinism is very hard to use. Every time I use it, I feel mad, and they should really change that stuff. I can’t imagine older people or weaker people could flush their own toilets there!!!

Walking distance from Funan Centre, the IT & electronics shopping mecca. But do not shop anywhere except in large stores where prices are fixed. Singapore has still a lot to do in disciplining its shop owners/attendants NOT to cheat & lie. They take ALL tourists as EASY prey!
