Very friendly and good facilities
Having spent a week with young children over New Year at the Pestana Village, we found hotel facilities great and the staff very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is well located for town and lido, though a walk or bus-ride away. It’s slightly off the seafront - not a problem unless you really want a sea view given beaches are poor / non-existent. Outdoor pools may have been heated but a bit refreshing for most of us. Indoor pool was useful in that respect. Sharing all facilities with Miramar hotel next door adds to benefits - with more in-house restaurants, table tennis, pool tables,children’s room, gym, spa etc all well used. Food is good - indeed (unusually) we had our best meals in the hotel restaurants. In-house evening entertainment (singers etc) a bit tame but seemed to go down well with mainly middle-aged plus clientele...

Comfortable hotel, close to town, not much of a kitchenette
The Pestana Village is right across from Reids, and one of the closest hotels on "hotel row" going in to Funchal. It is close enough to walk to the center (about 15 minutes). The furniture was a bit dated, but okay. We had a balcony with view of the city -- I don’t think any rooms here could have a water view. The garden and pool area is beautiful. We were disappointed that the gym and hot tub close at 8 PM (that may change in high season) -- we wanted a soak later in the evening. The kitchenette was a small refrigerator (which was fine) and two burners -- no dinner plates, one pot, no microwave. We couldn’t do much with that, though being able to cool drinks was helpful. The hotel breakfast was wonderful, with lots of choices. They had some varied entertainment in the evenings, which older visitors seemed to enjoy. We used the hotel phone for a couple of local calls and ended up with a big charge. Don’t use their phone at all!
