Great Nob Hill Hotel!!

My wife and I spent a weekend in San Fran and stayed in the Huntington Hotel, and it was a great hotel. The hotel was a little older than I think we were expecting, but, it’s not like it was falling apart by any means! The front desk and staff were very friendly. Let’s face it, though, the location is the reason to stay at this hotel!!

Elegant gem on Nob Hill

The Huntington is a very elegant, quiet and refined hotel. Our room overlooked the park, with a glimpse of the bay beyond. The spa and pool are very sleek and modern, in contrast with the clubby 1800’s feel and decor of the hotel lobby, bar, and dining room. The spa and pool make it surprisingly resort like in the middle of the city.

For gourmets, a trip across the bay to Chez Pannise in Berkeley is worth the the detour for a world-class dining experience. Try the upstairs Cafe - it’s an a-la-carte menu and is slightly more relaxed and informal than the downstairs restaurant which has a fixed menu that changes daily.

The best of San Francisco

This Hotel is very respectful of your needs, and they go out of there way for you. Enjoyed my stay very much, and would be pleased to stay there again, when I go back. Thanks ! for the hospitality.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

A little expensive, but well worth the price. There were many sights to see,and was an extremely beautiful city to see. Thanks! San Francisco.

Great Value for Money in Nob Hill

Had 11th floor view to San Fran bay which was impressive. Staff were friendly and helpful. Gym was of good quality. Bathrooms are modern.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Be wary if travelling with a vehicle that valet fees are around $40 per day and there is no viable local alternative.

Good Option in Nob Hill (if The Fairmont is booked)

The location is superb, and the view from my room was impressive. It is clear, however, that the hotel has not been updated in a very long time. The spa was wonderful, and not terribly overpriced.

Lovely Hotel

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Huntington Hotel. It was very old world and elegant, and a pleasure to return to after spending the day touring San Francisco. Access to the spa is part of staying at the hotel and we took advantage of that every day with a morning swim, then relaxing in the jacuzzi after walking around the city all day. The spa offered a wonderful selection of herbal tea and fresh fruit through the day. We will definately be back.

Traveler's tip

Get the 3-day Muni pass. It’s good for the cable cars, busses, and trollies. There is a cable car that stops right outside of the hotel. Just for fun (and a good way to check out the city), grab a cup of coffee and ride the car from one end of town to the other and back. If you want to save money on food, visit the little grocery store around the corner and get cereal and milk for breakfast. There is a small fridge in the room. Meals can get very pricey.

Great Hotel--- except for the manager

We stayed at the Huntington for our anniversary. When we arrived, we were immediately upgraded to a lovely suite. The doormen and front desk personnel were extremely friendly. The next morning, I was drying my hair when my husband plugged in an iron and we blew a fuse! Since the hotel used to be apartments, it turns out the fuse box was in the room next door. We got ready in the dark and went out for 4 hours. When we returned, the problem still had not been resolved. We went down to the front desk and spoke with a very nice young woman who said she would get the manager (who is also the concierge). We could see the woman across the lobby. She would not even get up and come over to speak with us. She said (loudly, across the lobby) that she knew about the problem and it would be fixed. She did not say when. Feeling that it was inappropriate to continue the conversation across the lobby, I walked over to her to find out when she expected the problem to be resolved. She was irate, she was brusque, she was rude, she credited our bill $100. The problem was finally resolved around 2:00 in the afternoon. Besides the snotty manager, everything else about the hotel was wonderful.

Traveler's tip on dining

You can catch the trolley right outside the Huntington and ride it to the Ferry Plaza. There is a Farmers Market on Saturday mornings that is fantastic. It’s a great place to have breakfast. We want to go back just for the farmers market!

excellant staff

everything about the hotel was excellant, but what made the trip particularly enjoyable was the kindness and helpfulness of the staff. the bar is warm and cozy with a neighborhood feel. the bartender is one of the best i have had, very personable and friendly. the only downside was the concierge who gave me the impression that they did not want to be bothered because i think they knew my dinner reservations were in order. i just needed a little direction and it seemed not important. i would highly recommend this hotel, very quiet also. easy to get a cab. only other downside is walking up or down nob hill, which is very steep.

the ferry building for many artisan products and cafes.

Excellent stay

Old style and well maintained. Centrally located with a wonderful small park across the street. There were a lot of repeat business guests.

Great Location and spa

The hotel is in a great location, easy to get to most major attractions, rooms are spacious and very comfortable.

Traveler's tip

Make sure upon check-in to get a remodled room, the older rooms are outdated and need sprucing up!

Great Location

This hotel is on top of Nob Hill where you are away from the bustle of downtown yet only four blocks from Union Square. There is an excellent restaurant (The Big Four) right in the hotel any many good ones within walking distance.

Not really impressed with the staff except the Bell Hoops

Way over priced (including dinning and bar) for the quality of staff. If you are not a "snob" then you do not fit in. Linnens were not changed regularly. Room was basically just straightened up vs. cleaned. Front desk staff (especially the evening ones) were not at all helpful or polite.

SNOB CENTRAL

This hotel was a complete mystery. The lobby was fancy, but our room was out of 1989. On top of that, the staff was outrageously snobby, except for the doorman, Jason, who was nice. Aside from that, this hotel did basically everything it could to remind us that we are not super rich. It was pretty unpleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they enjoy snobbery and rudeness!

we had a spacious and comfortable room. 5 star restaurant on site with really wonderful food and service. Thought room service was a bit pricey and would have liked an in room coffee pot.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great loction, Well Kept, Small Rooms, Rude Concierge

My mom and I recently went to San Francisco on a trip to celebrate my college graduation and stayed at the Huntington Hotel, neither of us had ever been to San Francisco. The Nob Hill location is PERFECT, quiet and peaceful away from the 24/7 crowds in Union Square but still within walking distance to all of the shopping and dining in that area. Also, the streets and overall upkeep of the area seemed nicer (less street people and trash, etc.) Also it is within blocks to many of the major bus stop and trolly stops, we bought 7 day muni passes and found the public transportation easy to use; the passes are definitely worth the money. The inside of the hotel is very nice nothing overly extravagent or ornate but a very quaint hotel we had an amazing view of the park across the street, as well as fishermans warf and the bay in the distance. The concierge was rude and stuck up. Her dinner choices for us were nice, we had her make 2 of our 5 nice dinners out. She said that she would send notes to our room and leave a message on our phone letting us know the time of our reservation and she did neither, which was a bit confusing especially when we went out all day and came back with no clue where or when we had reservations. We travel a decent amount and have stayed at many hotels more high end than the Huntington and have never had a concierge be so snotty.

Beautiful View, but a little dated

The corner room on the 8th floor had a beautiful view of the bay and the financal district. The decor, however, is dated and could use a little updating. We both woke up with back-aches from the bed (it needs a newer, better matress). The pool was fantastic and it was a nice relaxing way to end a day of sightseeing. The service in the hotel was also very good. We enjoyed our stay.

Exceeded expectations

My 16 year old daughter and I stayed for 5 days and loved it all. We could not have afforded it if we had not gone through Expedia. The location on Nob Hill was perfect for exploring all areas of the city. The fact that the trolley stopped right in front made it even easier. The room was huge and clean. The room service was fast and delicious but a bit pricey. We ate at the restaurant one time. We suggest the filet mignon and the Guinness stout pot roast. The piano player took requests and service was excellent. We couldn’t believe the spa! It was a beautiful way to relax after trudging the hills. The doormen were friendly and helpful as was the concierge.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Rent a bike at the wharf and go over the Golden Gate to sunny Sausalito for lunch on the water.

Loved being away from the crowds

Thought it was a lovely boutique hotel, very quiet and attentive. Reminded us of the Lennox in Boston. We had a lower floor without a view & our room was small, but didn’t care because we were out all day and the hotel location and price outweighed the lack of view. Arrived mid morning and they suggested we freshen up & change in spa lounge holding our luggage until check-in. Helpful with directions, suggestions & offered a courtesy driver for travel close by ---

Traveler's tip on dining

Walk 2 blocks to Nob Hill Cafe for a nice moderately priced dinner among locals - prepare for a wait, but chatty & cozy inside and worth it.

Definitely Recommended

Although this hotel may be a bit pricey for some it is worth every penny, especially if you are looking for a place with excellent service and a great location for a luxurious stay in San Francisco. I was able to get around the city easily from this prime location - with a cable car stop right in front and several bus stops within easy walking distance. I can’t say enough about the staff - everyone was so friendly and helpful. And if you are looking to get pampered you should definitely try the Nob Hill Spa - wonderful staff and every need and detail has already been thought of to make your visit incredible.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I would highly recommend getting the City Pass if you plan to take in some of the museums and popular attractions. Even if you don’t the included unlimited travel on the Muni bus system and cable cars is well worth it, especially if you won’t have a car with you. I saved a ton of money by using public transportation with the City Pass and found it very easy to get around.
