Rude
we felt unwelcome, to put it bluntly. Treated like we were stupid, not given directions when we even asked in a friendly way "Where is the nearest metro stop?" Made to feel like we couldnt even sit in the restaurant. (Never even asked if we wanted to order something and totally ignored us.) We have traveled extensively and always find a hotel that does their job properly, especially in a foreign country, makes you feel welcome, gives you tips, can offer to book things for you. Not here. There was no "service" at all. Every question I had (which was not many, as I became afraid to ask) was greeted with a blank stare. Not even the simplest amenities like an ice machine.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
This is pretty far out of the way from most sights except Sacre Coeur....so be prepared to learn the metro lines inside and out (Green to Yellow will get you most places) OR spend millions on rude cabbies who will try to cheat you.

Gem in Montmartre
Accommodating staff and well equipped rooms. Decent size for Parisian standards. Good location for both scouring the neighborhood and access to city center. The rooftop terrass is a must see, especially at night while the Eiffel Tower is glittering. Many good restaurants and cafes within walking distance.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
If you like flea markets do go to the Saint Ouen flea market - about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Plan to spend some time there as it is large.

Terrass Hotel Paris a treasure!
First of all, the location, Montmartre, is special in that it is in the heart of a French village; you get to immerse yourelf in the French culture and people. Tastefully decorated spacious room with all sorts of amenities (i.e.coffee pot, desk, iron/ironing board). Bathroom was spacious with a large tub and a separate water closet/toilet room. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. We spoke French (not always fluent!). Found if you made the effort, staff would jump in with English if needed. Do visit or dine on the 7th floor restaurant. The view of the city, including the Eiffel Tower, is spectacular. Would love to go back to Paris - so much to see and would definitely make reservations at the Terrass Hotel again.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Go French! Veer away from Americanized hotels. Staying in Montmartre was wonderful - lots of cafes, shops, open markets. Do wear comfortable shoes! Lots of hills and cobblestones. Consider buses as well as the metro. Both are convenient to Montmartre.
