Simple

Especially on a budget this would be the hotel to stay at. About 4 blocks from the Metro(Alisia) and a very nice grocery store about a block and a half away. No air conditioner so I had to go buy a fan. No fridge so I had to go buy a cooler. Very much worth the purchase.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Use the Metro and walk everywhere. It costed about $100 for 2 people for a 5 day pass anywhere the subways and train can take you in 3 zones. Also, buy the 10 best things to do in Paris book. It’s semi compact so you can take it to all your destinations. It also has a subway map which is convienent.

Just OK - nice bathroom

The good aspects of the hotel: modern, updated bathroom and free breakfast (cereal, croissants - saved a little money on having to eat at a cafe). Bed sheets were clean. Bad aspects - nastiest carpet in our room that I have ever ever seen. Literally spattered stains everywhere, like someone had cut themselves then dripped blood across the room (and stains were dark, like blood). If they were going to spend so much to update the bathroom, why not spend a little more to put in new carpet? Not sure if I would recommend this to friends, family, esp. if they are picky. No air conditioning - need to open window. No hair dryer, so bring one if you need one. Desk staff spoke limited English, but were generally friendly. Hotel is in the southern part of the city, not really close to main attractions. But it is close to Metro stop "Alesia", so we got around easily.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you like Van Gogh, you should definitely visit Auvers-sur-Oise, which is 35km outside of Paris. It is a cute little town, and you can see where Van Gogh lived & died, and see his grave. Very picturesque little town. You will need to take the RER train to Cergy Prefecture, then get on bus 95/07 to the town.

Too far from the metro

The room and bathroom were larger than most hotels I’ve stayed at. The metro was about 6 blocks from the hotel. Along the walk there were beggers who approached me for money. The hotel staff was not familiar with the neighborhood when I inquired about places to eat. I had gone to the one suggested, but did not eat there. No hair dryer in the room, it had to be borrowed.

Traveler's tip on dining

One of my favorite restaurants was LeRuc. It’s on Rue de Pyramides off Rue Rivoli. You can sit outside, the waiters are helpful with English, and it’s a great place to people watch. And, on Rue Rivoli the souvenir shopping is best.
