im sure it was great in the 60s
old and musty, although clean and comfortable. was nickel and dimed for everything, from water to use of health club. pateo velho, the traditional portugese resto, is lovely. the pool bar serves great sandwiches. the breakfast buffet is so-so. the only truly great thing about this hotel is access to the duna beach club. even though they will nickel-and-dime you for prime chairs near the pool.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
avoid the noisy pool at the hotel, filled with smokers and children. head straight for the beach club. avoid dinner at the hotel and go straight to lagos marina!

Great Location! However filled to the brim with Seniors...
Hotel Lagos is in a great location. You can walk to everything in town, including the train station. So convenience wise, it was truly good. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. Plus, the hotel was in great condition and it gave off the feeling of luxury in a small beach town. However, I am 32 and felt completely out of place. The hotel was filled with people 65+ for the entire time I spent there. The music was even catered to an older crowd as well, and I somewhat felt like I was on the Love Boat or at a 50th anniversary party. Ive never actually stayed somewhere that was so demographically narrow, despite all of my traveling. So, go forewarned... its not exactly the type of place to feel young at heart, carefree and a stomping ground for meeting others. Unless of course you are 65! :)

Lagos gem
This hotel was beautiful and quite a good value for the money. The staff were very helpful from the front desk to the pool to the shuttle driver. It can be a bit confusing to navigate through the place as they have added on and so you can go from floor 0 to floor 3 on the same level. A nice breakfast is included getting you off to a good start to the day. The hotel is worth a look. I was there for New Years Eve and I enjoyed it a lot. It is close to the marina, bus station and city sights.
