Great value, comfort and location in central Bordeaux
The Grand Hotel Français lived up to its favorable reviews on TripAdvisor: clean, comfortable modern room (some rooms are traditional decor) and a very generous buffet breakfast made this just the small hotel we were looking for in central Bordeaux.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Many of the hard-to-visit sites in Bordeaux (prefecture, etc) are only open to the public on Tue or Wed so check-online first and plan dates if you want to see these sites. Otherwise, this is a pedestrian paradise: wonderful walks along charming tree-lined streets.

Great location - friendly staff
This is a little hotel on a side street. Youll need a taxi or a GPS to find it, but it is right in the center of all the action in Bordeaux. It is close to the Tourism Center, shopping district, and some great restaurants. Rooms are large, but dated. Free wi-fi and a small breakfast area. Definitely a good value & nice hotel.

Some Strong Positives; A Few Real Negatives
The Grand Francais is not "grand", but rather a lovely little hotel in the heart of old Bordeaux - very conveniently located. Unfortunately, it is on a small side street that is awkward to access by car. Delivering/picking up passengers and luggage is a bit stressful. Best to use cabs for that... The hotel has free WiFi in the rooms which is a terrific plus for those of us tracking our email, even "en vacances". The rooms are well kept and attractive - very clean. However, they are also very small, including the shower stall which is barely big enough for an adult! The breakfast is well worth the price - a fabulous buffet every morning with a wide variety of food choices. One can "stoke up" well, before a day of sightseeing. The staff is friendly and helpful. Id stay there again, recognizing the facilitys constraints.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Definitely walk and take the trams (very reasonably priced) around old Bordeaux to enjoy the city. Many of the streets prohibit car traffic so getting anywhere by auto takes time. Also, street parking is virtually impossible. Further, the cabs are expensive, so its best to limit their use to necessary situations.
