Place to sleep
If you are like we were we just needed a clean place to put our stuff and sleep since we were out sight seeing all the time, then this is the place for you. I was very happy with the Britannia and the staff was very pleasant. Only down side is there is no AC in the building BUT that is in most places in the UK I found out... so its not their fault. So if you cant sleep with it a little on the warm side you might want to consider that. They also let us keep our bags in a separate room when we had to check out, that was a huge help.
Traveler's tip on dining
There is an amazing cafe about one block north. Take a right and it has a blue awning. Best breakfast around.

OK for cost, but.......
Overall, an acceptable base if you want to save money and dont expect to spend quality time in the hotel. The facility itself is perfectly decent--smallish, neat, cheap, nicely located in a lovely neighborhood with excellent shops--but service was impersonal and spotty, as if the lower reaches of the British civil-service had taken over the front desk. Well-served by buses, but awkwardly placed for the Underground, requiring substantial (if remarkably pleasant) walks in either direction.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Excellent pub at the next corner, and fine shops for practical necessities (drugstore, hardware, news-stand, etc.) on the next street

Hampstead Britannia
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel because hotels in this price range in London are not at this level of comfort. The hotel is a short walk to Chalk Farm and Camden market and about ten minutes to Finchley road. The walk to Hampstead high street is pleasant and good exercise because it is up hill all the way. I travel to London twice a year to visit my daughter and this was the nicest hotel Ive stayed in at a budget price.
