A good tourist hotel
It was a nice hotel. It was clean and quiet. The rooms are small but that is typical of European hotels. It was close to all Metro and the train station. The staff is very helpful. I would stay at the hotel again.

Hotel Magenta in Paris is a great deal
If you are looking for a nice hotel for a reasonable price, this is the place. Its only rated 3 stars, but thats probably because there are no amenities like room service or a fitness center. Its a newly remodeled hotel (2009) and most importantly, clean. We stayed in a superior room (queen bed) which was relatively big compared to the small hotel rooms Europe is known for. Breakfast is included, which is a great extra, especially given how expensive meals are in Paris and the US$1.50 to Euro exchange rate. Hotel is very close to the Metro and within walking distance to Gare du Nord and Gare de lEst if you need to take the SNCF or RER outside of Paris. The staff was also very helpful in planning activities, making reservations, etc. There is also free wi-fi. We really couldnt have asked for more.

Mixed feelings
When we first arrived my impression was great. The front desk staff spoke great English and were helpful. Our room was decent and comfortable. It actually had good AC which is rare in Europe. Up to about midnight I was completely satisfied. Around 1am when I plugged in an adapter to charge my laptop, the electricity went off in the room. I called the front desk and he checked a couple things but said nothing was wrong! I asked if he had another room and he said no. My husband had to go down to demand something else, and we received a room on the top floor with a window that didnt close so you could hear the street noise and it wasnt nearly as nice. Had the fuse not blown in the first room I think we would have had a great experience. The free internet and breakfast were good. The neighborhood was a little scary at night and hard to find in the dark. I think I would stay here again if the front desk had offered some sort of compensation for what happened, but they said they could do nothing. Overall I just have mixed feelings about this hotel.
