Great Location and Price

I got about a 50% discount by going through Expedia, which makes this place a no brainer. The rooms are clean and the airconditioner works well. It is an older hotel, not very luxiourous, but if all you need is the basics and you like to be close to the attractions (bars and clubs), then this place will be perfect for you. It is also right on the malecon and you can go to the beach and swim just slightly north of the pool entrance. I’d definitely stay there again because of its location and the price was excellent.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

just walk out the door, take a right and everything is right there. Bodeguita de Medio is a cool salsa bar. Que Pasa bar has high definition satellite feed for all your sports watching needs. Everyone speaks English there, too.

The oldest hotel in PV. Not for everyone. One of the best locations. Great Views.

We had been to the Rosita in the past and really enjoyed our stay. This time our room was not on the ocean side but facing the street. It was too noisy. The restaurant and bar are right next to the pool. Good food, modest prices and a good variety of dishes. The locals hold daily events at the restaurant area and it seems like a popular place for conducting business. At the time of our arrival, there was 10% occupancy. On the weekend it went up to about 30%.

Traveler's tip

At the Puerto Vallarta airport, after customs, you always have to run a gaunlet of time share promoters. A polite "No thank you" will not discourage these guys from harrasing you. I had heard that the airport would eliminate the problem but unfortunately it never happened.

One Positive For This Old Hotel- Great Location!!

I read some of the reviews prior to booking this hotel and the person that wrote, "I would spend a little more money and stay somewhere else hit the nail on the head." I kept on thinking of this review during my week stay at this hotel. I wished I would have followed this advice. The Hotel Rosita has seen better days... This hotel was built in 1948 and it has not received many improvements since that date. Unfortunately, the hotel is not old and charming.... it is just plain old and outdated. If you can afford to pay more for a hotel do so (not the Pescador either). The positives for the hotel: LOCATION is great- you are right on the Malecon near many stores and restaurants. The girl that cleaned our room was very friendly. The food was good but the service at the restaurant was slow. The only item in the room that was nice was the shower was big. The negatives for this hotel: I found the reception staff (with the exception of one lady) to be mediocre- not very friendly. The room was small and the beds were very small and uncomfortable. The only rooms that had A/C were rooms located on the street side. All of the rooms near the ocean did not have A/C. Also, the only difference in the rooms was size. All of the rooms in the hotel were sooooooooooooooooo outdated. Also, I previously mentioned the service at the restaurant was very slow. LIKE I PREVIOUSLY STATED THE BEST ADVICE, " IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY A LITTLE MORE STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE."

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Our favorite restaurants were on the Malecon: Cheeky MOnkey & Paradise Burger were good for lunch time. One place that was very interesting to visit was the Vallarta Zoological Park in Mismalayoa (spelling??). They had a baby tiger, baby panther, and baby lion which you could play with and take pictures for $100 pesos for a few minutes.

Great Location

If you like being in the heart of town then this is a great location. I didn’t care too much for the fact that our room was located off the main street. This was very loud and you didn’t get peace and quite until the town went to sleep, which was very late. The staff was very attentive and helpful. No ice buckets, hair dryer or hand towels in the room. It earned it’s two stars. The pool was not heated brrrr. Overall it was an "ok" stay.

Traveler's tip on dining

you’ll find the best dining at Roberto’s, La Dolche Vida, Gaby’s and Las Palomas. Two on the malecon and two off on side streets. Great food, great service awesome atmosphere.

Great Location, Great Staff, but rooms need alot of help!

After checking out the room that we had booked on Expedia, we found that it had only a small double bed, was very shabby and on the noisy street side of the hotel(the air conditioner would have been needed only to drown out the noise). Reception was able to find us a room on the ocean of the hotel for an additional $30/night and it was well worth the extra fee. Ocean side rooms have no air conditioning, but none is needed because it’s the shady side of the building and there is a constant breeze off the water. The only noise we heard was the crashing of waves on the rocks below. Excellent location and views of the coast, plus it’s within walking distance to everything. On the down side - the hotel is very old and the rooms are much in need of updating. For example, bathroom tile is patched in several colors, sinks and faucets have been painted with a brush to give them a cleaner appearance, but the paint is peeling. Also, the bedding is thin, faded and had burn holes. The clientele appeared to be mostly retiree’s on a limited budget.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

This is a great location for shopping, dining and nightlife, but if you are going to Puerto Vallarta for beach activities, you would be better off at a hotel either south of the river, or closer to the airport in the hotel zone.

Treated me real well. Good rates, location, very satisfied.

everything about the hotel was excellent. the only area where it could be better is in the restaurant. the service is slow and my order was wrong.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Good value for the money. Very centrally located to downtown and Romatico area. Many restaurants, shops, clubs located real close.

We keep returning.

This was our third time at the Rosita during festival time. Because it is located at the north end of the Malencon and near the fiesta procession route, it’s incredibly noisy at night but fun and relaxing. Usually the lapping of waves masks some of the all-nigt revelry. A walker’s delight, almost everything in the city is within walking distance. I do wish the hotel offered towels for the pool.

Too noisey

Screaming kids in hotel. Pool full of screaming and jumping kids. Hotel is nice and nice location but not oriented to any kind of quiet.

Not Impressed

My hotel Itinerary showed a request for an ocean view and 2 double beds. When I got to my room, it was a single double bed and the view was far from being an ocean view. The view overlooked the renovation of a building and it was quite noisy. You could also hear the traffic from the busy street that was a few yards away. I called to ask why I did not have two double beds and an ocean view and they told me that I would have to pay more for that. I found the staff at the front desk to be unhelpful.

Best Deal in Town

We enjoyed the convenience of its location in downtown, the reasonable rates, and the charm of its typical colonial style.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Hotel has an elevator, but it was not working, so be prepared to walk up to three floors, however, the hotel has great help and they will help you with your baggage.

It’s the Rosita

I stay at the Rosita every time I go to Puerto Vallarta...You can’t beat the location...but that’s about the only reason to stay there.

We Never Go Back

The had a reservation for two night but we could only stand one and that was because we got there at 1am. The bed had sand in it like the maids didn’t change the sheets from the previous people who stayed in the room. The towels were nasty, the bed sheets had holes in them, and the shower looked terrible. Also the street next to the hotel was so loud wasn’t able to fall asleep tell 3am.

Beautiful hotel

This was my first trip to Mexico and I’ll definitely stay at the Rosita again. It’s located in the middle of everything. The staff was very helpful esp. when I needed help converting "dollars" to pesos. I had a room facing the street and although there was action on the street, the noise did not filter into my room once the balcony door was closed. I loved it!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The hotel’s location is not far from the departure points of most activities so the cab fare is very reasonable. Take advantage of it.

Nice older hotel

We chose to stay at the Rosita because it was in the heart of the old town area. The first night we had a room too close to the Malecon walkway and the noise did not stop until after 3:00 AM. We requested and got a room over the pool/patio on the ocean side (for a little extra)and that was wonderful. From then on we really liked the hotel--a little ’long-in-the-tooth, but nice. The front desk staff was very helpful if a little hard to communicate with but there was always someone we could talk to. Purified water was freely available. I would stay again but only in an ocean-side room. Ron M., Columbus, Ohio.

Rosita Hotel a dump

This hotel is about 50 years old and looks it, the sleeping rooms especially. The bathroom has mold and mildew and is cleaned only at a cursory level. My room and most rooms are over the street, which is VERY loud, the locals drive by late at nite and blast their music. Sunday morning at 7am the staff was powerwashing the hall outside my room. The location is close to shops, restaurants and right on the ocean. I will never stay there again. It is WAY overpriced for what it is.

Great location

The Rosita is the oldest hotel in PV, and it has a lot more charm than newer hotels in the area. It’s right in the heart of downtown at the start of the Malecon, so the location couldn’t be better. It’s important to note that you should only stay here if you can get a room on the back or side -- rooms that look out over the road are extremely loud.

Bad Location

I stayed on first floor on the corner of the hotel. My room was on the street side. The noise was unbearable. Not from the cobble stone street but from people driving down the boardwalk with their CD players blasting. I could feel the vibration and had to actually plug my ears at times. This went on some nights till 3:00 A.M.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The Sierre Madre trip was excellent. Also the city tour and snorkling and diving were great.
