County Down’s Best Hotel
We recently spent 5 nights at the Slieve Donard situated at the base of the Mourne Mountains overlooking the Irish Sea in the town of NewCastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. The decor, service and food were all first class for a European hotel! This hotel has a beautiful golf course, an award winning restaurant and the view is spectacular. Since it is situated right in the town of Newcastle, we didn’t need a car - restaurants and shops were very close to the hotel. Although we came to this part of Ireland to attend a family wedding, we would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the north.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Walking the promenade around the sea is a must. Percy French’s restaurant located on the grounds of the hotel is also very pleasant, reasonably priced and family friendly. In addition, there are many hiking trails in the Mourne Mountains.
