Charming but not worth the price
The hotel is unique and well situated. I stayed in a Boathouse suite closer to the beach than the regular rooms. I ate most of my meals in the hotel restaurants and enjoyed the well prepared though limited lunch and dinner menu. Breakfast and special dinners were excellent. The staff was wonderful - friendly, competent and always available. The biggest problem I had was that the Boathouse suite was somewhat run down and uncomfortable for the amount of money I paid. While everything was clean, there was evident wear on both the structure and furniture. Though the bed matress was new and very hard, the couch and chairs were sagged out and there was an actual 1/4 gap in the wall beneath the stairway that allowed mosquitos to enter. The gap opened as a result of the structure settling unevenly over the years. The excellent staff compensated somewhat for the Boathouse suite deficiencies, but I still feel the room was not worth the price.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The weekly buffet barbecue meal is probably one of the best meals on the island.
