Stunning beauty - want to return soon

We spent three nights at this gorgeous castle in July 2009. Our party of five included my 8 year old son. All of us were impressed with the details of this wonderful hotel with its authentic structure, preserved interior, plush furnishings and modern amenities. From the moment of our arrival, the charm and ambiance enveloped us. We arrived in an airport taxi after 15 hours of flying. The front desk clerk greeted us at the gate, carried our bags, whisked us through check-in and took us to our rooms. The air conditioning was cold, the beds were comfortable and the entire space was immaculate. There was a fully stocked refrigerator in each room and the bathrooms were outfitted with the highest quality fixtures. We felt like we were in a movie where everything was picture perfect. The dining room was right out of a novel with a huge fireplace, starched wait staff and elegant table service. There is a huge swimming pool next to the shaded horse pens. This property is perched on a hill with a commanding view. The location is a fair distance from the train station and suburban area so guests should be prepared to walk, rent a car [ideal], take taxis or wrangle a schedule from the hotel shuttle. They offer free service in a large Mercedes van, but this is spotty on the return. There is no phone at the train station or nearby. There were several weddings at the castle during our stay. Each was beautiful and the flowers accented the charm of the venue. We highly recommend.

Good but not all that it seems to be!

Stayed in Mid May. The first night we were the only guests there! Hotel is very nice but it was very hard to locate any of the staff. We waited in the bar for at least 15 minutes and then had to go and find someone at the desk to ask if someone could help! Bar man was very nice and gave us tips where to find a winery in Tuscany which we found via his good instructions. We choose this Hotel because it had a pool however it was empty and being repaired. Area down & around the pool as well as the road to it was dirty, had not been maintained at all and weeds everywhere. Never did locate the Turkish Baths & Spa!! Breakfast on the Patio was excellent although, they are no views of Vineyards as shown in the photos. Overall the actual Hotel building was great but it could be so much more, what a shame.

Traveler's tip

You need a car to stay here (which we did). Train in next town (cannot buy tickets at station). Very hard to locate Hotel and road was full of pot holes. Check with Hotel if function rooms are being used for your stay. Would imagine that having a room on that side would be very noisy.

Great place to be outside the city

The hotel is about 15 miles or 25 minutes from central Rome in the beautiful countryside. The views and grounds were fantastic and quiet. The people were helpful, friendly and courteous. We enjoyed our 10 day stay immensely and would recommend it to anyone. We had a car so we do not know how it would be if you did not have your own transportation. We stayed over Christmas and New Year’s and attended the New Year’s party put on by the hotel. It was a 7 course, 3 hour dinner with live entertainment (they sung 95% american songs) which was very good.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

A complete breakfast was served everyday as part of our room rate. It was excellent with eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, yogurts, meats, cheeses, etc. We ate a few dinners at the hotel but it would probably be a bit less expensive to eat outside as is most often the case.
