dont even book this hotel
It is very simple - it is a tourist trap, the pictures you see on this website, doesnt have anything to do with the reality, which is very depressing and smelly room, and in fact you keep on asking yourself what kind of room it was before it become a hotel. In fact we lost our money and we didnt stay there, we had to book another hotel 30 min after we checked in.
Traveler's tip
just dont book this hotel

toasty, convenient, clean, good service
I had a couple issues to resolve prior to arriving, and the staff were really prompt and thorough in emailing with me before our trip. My husband is disabled, and they booked our room right on the lobby, extremely helpful, cheery, nice people, all shifts. Our room was clean, the bathroom new and spotless with outstanding hot water, lots of hot water, hot enough to make tea with it. We had two radiators, were very comfy with fresh towels, fresh sheets, was quite nice to me. The location couldnt have been better, as my husbands disabled and couldnt go far at all, so with a dozen restaurants within steps, numerous coffee shops within steps, we were able to do a lot of people watching without having to hurt him.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Use the canal tours directly across the street. The people are nicer than at Lovers and its a lot lot closer. When catching a tram, walk towards the Dam, not towards Central Station even though everyone references the Central Station to go to. Its a lot lot shorter walk and not nearly as bad as trying to cross through the tracks at the station.

cheap, central, one star hotel.
two of my girlfriends and i stayed here recently, and, while it is not the cleanest hotel, the fact that its in the middle of everything amsterdam has to offer made it a really fun place to stay! hotel staff was always friendly, and someone is at the front desk 24/7, making us all feel a little safer about our stay.
