Anguilla Great View House

What an awesome place to stay; be sure to request an ocean-view room if you want to enjoy beautiful sunrises and the sound of the sea at night. The facilities were adequate, the prices were fair. It was nothing flashy, or luxurious, but it didn’t need to be- the beach is really the star attraction here! For the most part, the staff was friendly and helpful. We plan to return sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Be sure to rent a vehicle; most attractions and dining establishments on the island are quite spread out.

Not impressed

Good points: Location on Rendezvous Bay, which is a tranquil, beautiful beach; Quiet; Relaxed attitude; nice grounds; restaurant is decent (but walk on the beach over to Bankie Banx Dune Preserve for the best food we had on the island) Bad points: While the exterior of the buildings is charming, interior accomodations are basic and severely outdated (esp in bathroom), but this could be forgiven if the staff were warmer and more helpful; front desk staff are not particularly warm or helpful (but I think this is the attitude of non-5-star hotels in general - you really have to pay big bucks on the island to get good service)

Glad we switched hotels

After a long day of travelling to Anguilla, we hoped we would be greeted with a decent hotel. Unfortunately, this was not the case with the Anguilla Great House. We stepped into the "lobby," and were greeted with a sullen crew. We checked in and as we walked to our room, we saw a wedding in progress on the beach. While the beach was beautiful, the wedding impacted the hotel stay negatively. We were told the restaurant and bar were closed for the wedding. Hungry and thirsty, we walked down the beach to the next hotel, a high end luxury hotel where a lunch cost us $75.! We listened to music from the wedding and awoke to a mess on the ground of the "Great House." Broken beer bottles poolside, a sandy bottomed pool, paper plates with food on the walkway to the beach. We called Expedia and began our search for a new hotel on Anguilla. Luckily, we found paradise at another hotel. So much for The Anguilla Great House.

If you are looking for extreme luxury then this might not be the place for you, but if you want friendly staff, good service, and a GREAT location on the beach, in a beautiful setting, stay at the Great House.
