Good location
This hotel is tucked in one of the side streets off of Gran Via. We found the location convenient ad safe (even in wee hours of the night) to access the Metro as well as walking distance to many attractions such as Plaza Del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and even to the palace. We booked a room with double bed, and both pillows and the mattress were good. The room is small by American standards, but serves the purpose. The room adn the bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We had A/C or heat control in our room, so we could control the temperature. When we checked-in and walked into the room, there was bad smell, which went away when we closed the windows (smell was coming from the street). However, that was never an issue after that incident. The hotel offers free coffee/tea service at room, which we took advantage of. Overall great hotel if you get it for good price.

Noisy at night
The hotel was fine but often during the night significant noise from equipment and people in the street below our window woke us up.

Really disappointed...
From the moment we walked in to the hotel the staff was rude to us and didn’t even greet us. When we tried to get the desk clerk to make a second copy of the key, he just kept saying that if we needed a copy of the key that we could let him know. We were letting him know, and he still didn’t want to do it. The hotel was very shabby looking, and I was quite embarassed that I chose this place for my friends and I to stay. It looked much nicer in the pictures, and although the overall location was decent, the hotel itself was located down a desolate alleyway-like street that made us apprehensive (even during the day). In addition to the room being a far cry from the pictures I saw online, there was incessant hammering and construction on the floor above us during the late afternoon and into the evening that made us all look around in silence and think to oursleves, "can it get any worse". On the first leg of our trip, we stayed at a much nicer hotel in Madrid for less money per night. I definately do not recommend this hotel to fellow travelers.
