Not at all impressed
This hotel reminded me of a basic motel 6 in the US. While the location was convenient for shopping and restaurants it lacked the overall feel and amenities we expected. Lighting in the bathroom was poor and lacked electrical outlets for such things as curling irons. Towels and soaps they provided were minimal, no bath mat provided for the floor and only 1 wash cloth for 2 people. In most hotels check out time is 11 or 12am, here it was 10am and when asked about late check out we were told that it would an extra charge per hour until 2pm after which a full nights charge would be added to the bill.

Room was clean. Location was good. Close to everything. Room had no view, only of a building and a roof. Very dark

Perfect Southbank location, central in-town location for walking
This was a great place to stay at a great rate for families on a budget! My sister is disabled and uses a walker, and we were easily able to get to all Southbank locations from here. The hotel staff was very helpful. If we ever get back to Melbourne, this is where well stay. We will recommend to all our friends! One thing; the beds are a little stiff, Im not sure whether softer beds were available, but if you prefer soft mattresses, you might want to inquire in advance.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Internet access is available via 3 computers in the lobby so you dont need to bring your laptop to stay in touch. Also, be sure to ask where Southgate food court is located. We were able to get lunches there for an inexpensive price, and everyone got to choose what they wanted. That way we saved the more pricy cafe dining for evenings. We had breakfast in our room since refrigerators are provided. (I walked to a local market near Flinders Station to purchase breakfast and snack items).

Wonderful location and stay
I was very impressed with the Travelodge Southbank in Melbourne. I traveled alone in Australia for almost 3 weeks and ended my stay in Melbourne. I found the location perfect for seeing the city skyline from the southbank. Its easy walking distance to the city centre, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the art museums and lively Federation Square. The hotel room was very clean, comfortable, modern and matched my budget. The hotel staff was very accommodating. I would highly recommend it.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
To join the locals in their favorite sport, attend a Rules football game at the nearby Melbourne Cricket Club. Its a 15-20 minutes walk from the hotel. You can just walk up to the window and purchase your ticket. Its next to the Rod Laver Tennis Center where the Australian Open is held at. You can get a flavor of local culture and color in this past time activity.

Great location, good price
Located right in the heart of Southbank. Its a short walk to the National Gallery, Southbank restaurants, and the city center. Reduced rate parking is available across the street, although if you stay here you can easily see all the tourist sites without renting a car.

Excellent location
The location was perfect - walking bridges across the Yarra to downtown, cafes and shopping, all within a block; the Casino a 10-minute stroll down the quay; and the Arts Complex and Federation Square a pleasant 15-minute walk.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Our room included a microwave and mini-frig... so with a short walk across the river for groceries, we ate out once a day and made our own meals the rest of the time.
