A good and inexpensive hotel for Oslo tourists
The Anker has quite small but adequate rooms with small bathrooms (shower next to toilet with a curtain, so you mop the floor with your bath towel after you dry.) It is a friendly place with good breakfasts. Its outdoor beer garden is sometimes closed when you would like to sit there during the day. It is in a multicultural neighborhood - lots of immigrants and thus lots of (for Oslo) inexpensive restaurants serving ethnic goods. About 20 minutes walk to railroad and subway station, 25 to downtown, but good tram service to station and downtown. Oslo is a safe city to walk in so not being in the downtown center is not a problem. Our last stay was as a family group of 12 people, and everyone seemed pleased. Has good views from upper story windows, and is next to a riverside park, and not far to restaurants.
The Anker was a good place to bring a large family group (in our case, 12), at relatively low cost for Oslo. It served well as a base for three days of exploring Oslo, using the excellent tram/bus/subway system.

Nice and well localized but no A/C
Great deal. If you have the chance to get a room at the 12th floor with a view on OSLO it is a perfect deal. But no A/C so in summer room can be very hot... just keep windows opened.
Traveler's tip
It is just 2 stops from the railway station ; as everything is done for disabled person it is easy to reach the hotel with heavy luggage. A food market is located at the corner of the street and nice restaurants are within 1 block.
