Get ready to gain some weight

The food was great, the view was also great. However, hard economic times are also being felt in the caribbean, the drinks were the worst. No, top shelf and not even any "presidente" beer.

Great place to spend time between dives!

We enjoyed a seven-night stay at the Palace. I don’t speak a word of Spanish or Italian, but it did not detract from a great week. If you think the language barrier will bother you, I would not recommend this hotel. If you are a diver, avoid the the perceived "convenience" of the hotel dive shops. You will be disappointed. Call the folks at Scubafun. They have big boats, great guides, and will pick you up at your hotel every morning at no cost.

Lost in translation

The hotel reception is very nice and well maintained. The grounds are well kept and as well as the beach. The room we got was old looking, the beds were hard and the cleaning service came once in three days, and did not do a good job. We proceded to complaint to the front desk and they gave us another room after 2 days of complaining. The entertainers mostly speak french, italian and little spanish and very, very little english. If they know you only speak English, they wont even approach you. The only thing they would say to us was HOLA (HELLO). The buffet was average, and the A la carte restaurants were very good. They have ONE pool which is super crowded except between the hours of 12 and 3 because thats when everyone goes to eat at the buffet. The beach is very nice and clean and there are plenty of beach chairs available. Most people at the resort were from Europe. Most women were semi naked (exposing their breasts) while sun tanning, which my boyfriend and my 10 years old son found amusing and entertaining. I would not recommend this hotel for English or Spanish speaking people or else you will be lost in translation and you will feel left out just like we did, so I will defenitely not go back here. If you want to Visit the Dominican Republic Punta Cana or Puerto Plata are 100 times better. I’ve been to both and they are way better than La Romana and better than this resort.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

For Souvenir’s you can get the much cheaper right outside of the resort. They have many small shops. And as far as the food the asian, and mediterrenean restaurants were the best, book one day in advance and definetely do the CRAZY WHEELS is fun, and that you have to book two days in advance. DONT RENT A CAR, thats what we did and its not the smartest thing to do.
