Rincon Paradise

This is the best place to stay in Rincon. While it may not be your typical "resort" this is one of the best places I have ever stayed. The grounds are gorgeous, the staff is super friendly and helpful, and the location is great. We stayed here on our honeymoon and we cannot wait to go back! I would recommend this place to anyone looking to really enjoy Rincon and have a safe, cozy place to sleep.

Wonderful experience

This is a wonderful little hotel. It’s up on the top of a mountain just a 4 minute drive from the beach. It’s not a walk you want to take, though because it’s a steep mountain, the roads are very windy and of course no sidewalks. You definitely remember you’re in PR when you’re here, you can hear the sound of the coquis and see lizards as you walk through the gardens. It’s not luxury, but is sure is wonderful .

Charming and unique

My son and I really enjoyed our stay at the Lazy Parrot. We stayed in their lowest priced room near the front. We had two full size beds and a view of palm and mango trees. The mattresses were comfortable, new, and more firm than soft. Mini fridge and microwave in room. I had called in advance and asked for in room coffee which they arranged for no charge. The AC and ceiling fan helped cover up the sound of the coqui frogs at night. There are ramps on the side parking areas so most rooms could be reached without stairs. Meandering tropical paths lead down to pool area wth many sitting areas along the way. Only the pool bar was open for food service as we were there in the slow season. We had fish tacos which were excellent. The service staff was great and mostly young people from the US. This hotel is a fantastic three star hotel! I have stayed at many five star hotel (including El Conquistidor) and I know the difference. "5star snobs" may be dissapointed here. Choose this hotel for charm, cleanliness, friendliness, and value.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Snorkel (if calm) "Steps" beach to see best elkhorn coral reef in carribean. Go to lighthouse for great views. Get a limber frozen treat in a cup at Bonet Liquor in Rincon on 115. Banana Dang next to hotel has very tasty smoothies and Internet (open 7:00 am or earlier). Bring your GPS from home but beware it may send you down oneway streets the wrong way.

Highly recommened

The Lazy Parrot was a delight to stay at! As would be expected, it is a very laid back establishment but with great service. The clientele are typically young (20-35). The two bars and restaurants offer a range of food and drink options, including great sushi. There are only around 20 rooms so it is never too busy, although non-residents also regularly visit for the food and entertainment. Having a car is a must. Rincon and it’s beaches are great and where we most enjoyed in Easter PR. My girlfriend and i look forward to returning in the future.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Aguadilla has nice beaches but Gilligans island in the South was very crowded and did not live up to expectations. Ponce was also not worth the drive. Rincon was great - flat ocean on the south side and great surf to the north.

Not what the pictures show

Do Not be fooled by the pictures. The room was nothing like showed The lobby closes early so have to arrange to recieve your key ahead of time. The breakfast was okay. Nothing fancy. The food at the restaurant was terrible. Plan to spend a lot of money for one person on small portions that are not for the faint stomachs. The service was not the best either. You could never find someone other then in lobby for help or questions. I do not reccomend this hotel.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Diving charters are all good. Your best bet for food is a market or the small bar and grill

Cool Hotel

We showed up a day early, but everyone was so kind and generously made a room available. It was a great room, with a marvelous view, and we didn’t have to move the next day. The setting is wonderful! I enjoyed it very much, and would definately go back.

Better than a 2 star

If you are looking for a carbon copy Marriott or Hilton, then stay at one of those in San Juan. If you want to experience "real Caribbean" then this is a great hotel. We read tons of reviews and everyone said it was great. Clean, friendly service, great price. It’s not on the beach, but it’s up in the hills above. About a 2 minute drive down to the beach. Rincon is a little surf village. We loved it and will probably go back.

Wonderful setting, but lots of steps

The setting is lovely, the rooms are new and clean, the pool area is beautiful. The breakfast is good. However, it is on a mountainside and there are a lot of steps - down to the reception area and up to your room. The air conditioner either ran full speed blowing on me all night or moist air - with a change of 1 degree! It is controlled with a remote - no directions in the room. The owners are very freindly - it is a family run place.

Nice, quiet Inn

We stayed here for a quick get-a-way and it was the perfect place. It’s quiet and secluded, but very close to the beach, surf shops and the lighthouse. All the staff personel were very friendly and helpfull. There’s a restaurant and gift store on the premises and a bakery next door. If you were staying for a longer period of time, the only problem would be that there’s no kitchen in the rooms, but I would definately recommend this hotel/inn to anyone.

The hotel far exceeds the star rating - will be back!

Nice, clean and cozy family environment. Not ideal for the mobility impaired.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Great family fun near multiple shopping and/or sight-seeing attractions. (Get travel book/guide for details.) Continental breakfast daily with WiFi in pool/breakfast area. Travel time to San Juan is 2 1/2 to 3 hrs, but give yourself a couple of extra hours if there is road construction or bad weather.

A great value and very charming.

We loved the Lazy Parrot. There were only a couple things I would have liked better. The continental breakfast is all carbs and sugar. They have packaged donuts, packaged bagels, sugar cereals and sweetened yogurts. It would have been nice if they would have had oatmeal, granola or some hard boiled eggs...Also, the lighting in the bathroom was very dim, which made it impossible to see one’s face in the mirror. Also, it is a 5-10 minute drive to the beach and to the town center, so you will definitely need a car.

Although it may not be as much fun, I recommend buying and preparing some of your own food in Puerto Rico. There are very few healthful choices in the restaurants--one well known restaurant had no vegetables on the entire menu, which is very common. Most of the food is fried and greasy and pork is the most common meat choice. It is dificulty to get any vegetable other than iceburg lettuce.

Loved the Lazy Parrot!!!!

Looks are deceiving from the road, but once inside it is a tropical paradise. The rooms in the front are older but incredibly clean and well maintained. The new pool side rooms are spacious and comfortable with great views. Both restaurants are excellent. The rum shack has nightly drink specials. The hotel at night has atmosphere with the tiki torches , gardens, birds and frogs. We will be repeating our trip very soon. We had a fabulous time!!!

Traveler's tip on dining

Meals can be pricey at some of the restaurants. We ate at the local bakeries for lunch and then split an entree and appetizer for dinner and our money went further. Coffee house next to hotel had great drinks especially the nuttydang and thaitea.

Lazy Parrot- a laidback LAZY spot...

You could sleep the day away in this college dorm type of hotel- it’s quiet and there is literally NO outside interference. Rooms are cozy and hotel service was great. The smiling joes restaurant downstairs had GREAT food also and the waitress was especially nice- (try the calamari)

Relaxed atmosphere, cute

Like all the hotels in Rincon, this hotel does the majority of its business during surf season. That said, we arrived in June, during the low season for surfing, and had a very good time. The hotel has very nice, cheerful and colorful terraces with ocean views. These are great places to sit and hang out. The front terrace is home to the pet parrot, whose only trick, as far as we could tell, is a startlingly realistic meow. A downside for the hotel is that it’s not on the beach, which is a 20 minute walk down a pretty tall hill. The upside, though, is great views of the ocean. Our room was not luxurious, but comfortable...with the exception of the waterbed. We concluded that there’s a reason waterbeds went out of style in the 1980s. We both woke up every morning with mild back aches. Don’t come here if you want to hang out with locals and speak Spanish--the hotel staff wanted to speak to us only in English. (This was generally the case not just here but everywhere we went in Puerto Rico, though.) Breakfast was unexciting but offered a reasonable variety of options. Staff were helpful and fairly friendly.

Traveler's tip on dining

The bakery next door sells very inexpensive sandwiches. They’re not gourmet, but they are quite filling. Avoid their fries and tostones--they’re very greasy!

Lots of Charm

This hotel had a quirky feel-would be fun for kids and adults alike. The pool area was small, but adequate as not too many people used it except for the weekend (non hotel guests could pay to use) There was a lively bar and informal snack bar by the pool--great food--large screen at end of pool for films(surfing)/Mon football. Food was pricy and spicy in main dining-but very good. It’s necessary to have a car, but there is lots to see without traveling too far--also to get to the beaches. There are no coffee makers in room-microwave and ref only-but a great bakery next door-open at 6am!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Great restaurant nearby-The Spot-overlooking water. Enjoy water sports nearby-especially watching surfers who come from all around the world. Explore the inner island by car-just beautiful and very laid back.

Can’t wait to go back,

The Staff was very nice. The Hotel has a beautiful view especially the second floor. This hotel is surrounding with beautiful beaches. If you don’t like quite and peaceful place, this is not a good hotel for you. You must have a car because this place is far from everywhere.Don’t eat in the hotel cause it’s pricey, go out it’s cheaper.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you like to go out clubbing, go to Mayaquez. It has a lot cool bar with live music, cheap drinks and beautiful women.
